Handy tip.

If you have a pool and do your own mainainance heres a handy tip, when the pools shut down for the winter, take the end cover off the pump motor and give the cooling fan a few flicks,I do it once a week, this prevents the lime scale building up on the shaft.Missed doing it last year with the result that when the pool was started up the pump was squealing like a stuck pig, result?,had to strip it down, clean it and buy new seals to re-assemble it.
Same also applies to the central heating system in the the summer, either run it for a short while or take the plug out of the pump, insert a thin screw driver in the hole and flick the impeller over a few times.Efes now 4 YTL a bottle. 8),
Before the comedians arrive I stripped the pump down and not the pig. :)

Good reminder geordieboy
Worth doing with any mechanical item that is left unused for prolonged periods.
