Title: Wales v Belgium
Post by: Colwyn on July 01, 2016, 16:44:19 PM
I have never visited this forum before (although I did reply to a UBT post without coming here) and I doubt that I will do it again except on this topic. I don't really understand football; when people start talking about playing a diamond with a false nine I glaze over. However, Wales are in a quarter final again. I watched the first one in the 1958 World Cup on black and white TV. Then, like now, we had a superstar player, John Charles, who people tell me was one of the greatest footballers, perhaps the greatest, from the UK. But he was injured and couldn't play. And our opponents, Brazil, had their own superstar although nobody in Europe had heard of him before the World Cup. Some 17 year old kid called Pele who scored the decisive goal. But tonight, our modern superstar, Gareth Bale, is fit ... so come on Wales!

The best of luck to the Welsh team hope it all goes well for them tonight. Interesting this morning when all the neutral British presenters (Who can stop England) are now Welsh supporters  : :) :P :-[

Not being a football supporter myself, I would wish any U.k. Team well and would hope all British people would hope the same?

What a fantastic, spirited and skillful performance from a group of humble and likeable sportsmen.
Maybe others could learn something from this superb TEAM.

Well done Wales - proud to have a Welsh Grandma   :)  :)  :)

What a fantastic result for Wales last night. As said before great to see a passionate display from a team of players, playing with heart and desire.I wonder how many Premier League sides will be looking to snap up Hal Robson-Kanu after that goal, as he is currently a free agent after being released by Championship side Reading at the end of the season.
Wales v Iceland final anyone??  :)

Well done Wales a great TEAM performance and now hope they do the same to Portugal . Best of luck in the semi - final. Gareth Bale against Ronaldo (a good player but a big poser) should be interesting. Hope another big team performance will get them to the Final.

Another non footie fan here but him indoors was watching so I had no choice :(
Needless to say I became engrossed in it with my Celtic blood reaching boiling point at times.  I am sure the game will be talked about for many years not only for the football but those wonderful supporters who sang their hearts out from start to finish.
I sincerely hope they go all the way to the final  :)

Yes, let's forget that EU referendum thingy last week, think we're all Welsh for at least the next few days, and hopefully to next weekend!   Could have one of the highest viewing figures for a football match for years! :D  My only claim to fame is having a Welsh name   ;)

In celebration of the week's events our first Sunday lunch since coming back from Turkey will be Welsh beef with an international concession - Yorkshire pudding. There will be no Brussels sprouts.

Hope it is good, honest Somerset cider. Not that filthy muck they turn out in Kent or, heaven forbid, that monstrous sweet, sickly, vile, libel on cider called Strongbow.

Just checked Colwyn and, sorry, but it's from Suffolk. Not being a cider drinker myself, having got very drunk and violently ill on the stuff when I was about 16 and  not touched it since, I reckon it'll be ok for cooking with.
I'm sure proper Somerset cider is best saved for drinking, for some people anyway!  :D
