I believe there's a shop near Meri bar does phones, dongles etc if that helps.

I purchased a mobile WiFi from the Turk Telecom shop next to the Gendarme , by PTT and its brilliant.
It cost 800 TL plus sim and costs 60 tl for 15.2 GB.
My son came out from UK for a couple of days and said it was far better and cheaper than he could get in UK.

I wish I was more tech savvy !

Do I understand correctly that this is something you can buy, plug in in your apartment, and it will give you wifi internet access ? I'm looking for something along those lines.

Dongle / mobile WiFi / MiFi all the same thing really, a device that you can buy and use in your apartment that will give you wifi internet access. Also you can buy ones that have a rechargeable battery so you can use it when out and about and they are only small so easily carried in a pocket or bag. You will also need to purchase a sim card and data.
