Turkish citizenship
« on: March 13, 2021, 19:29:43 PM »
Good evening,
I'm looking into applying for Turkish citizenship (kimlik) and wondered how difficult it would be to apply from the UK. It all seems pretty straightforward apart from having to travel to London or Edinburgh with my documents. Has anyone had or knows of anyone with experience of this?
TiA  :)

It's years since I applied (in London) at that time you had to attend an interview which was conducted in Turkish.  Depth of it depended on who interviewed you.

Thanks Incir,
I've read if you're married to a Turkish citizen then the Turkish interview doesn't apply. As my Turkish is 'very basic' it doesn't give me much hope in getting citizenship  ;D

At one time if you were married to a Turkish citizen the spouse's citizenship was automatic but then they changed it all & brought in reams of forms and the interview.  It was in 2000 that I did the interview, the rules may well have changed again so.  If you are in the UK check the Turkish Consulate in London website they should have up to date info on there.  From what I've heard from others the content of the interview very much depended on the interviewer - I was just unfortunate enough to get a miserable bugger.
