Gunlukbasispor

During the run up to Calis Carnival 2008, the Carnival Committee received a goody bag from Southport Football Club in the UK. The bag contained 3 leather footballs and a kit bag. The committee thought it would be a good idea to present these items to a local football club and recently members Pete Clark (Captain Squiffy), Russ Broadbent (Sandgrounder) and Mark Pietsch went to Gunlukbasispor to meet with some of the players and their committee. The Gunlukbasi club who started life as a street team in 1946 and became affiliated to the Turkish Football Federation in 1978, are completely self funded and have no major sponsors. Some of the players can't even afford proper football boots!!

They were absolutely delighted to receive the gifts from Southport Football Club and have asked the Carnival Committee to contact SFC to see if they could be "twinned". Russ is in contact with Southport's Chief Executive Officer and discussions are ongoing.

Gunlukbasi's next game at home is on Sunday 16th November and a group of committee members are going along to offer their support. Why not join them for the 2pm kick off and enjoy watching your local team?
