Know wonder the UK is in dire if it can't collect taxes even when the evidence is there for all to see that it has not been paid regardless of reason! 8 million pound investigation, was it worth it in the first place???

I understand the investigation and trial of the Yorkshire Ripper failed to make a profit too. What a diabolical legal system we have in the UK.

Not really a serious comparison is it? One is a mass murderer the other is a innocent (cough) tax dodger! Since when did profit come out of court cases anyhow??

Highlander as a ex police officer of many years I am fully aware of the difference between not guilty and guilty I am also very aware the legal system in the UK is not one to be proud of and is stacked in favour of the guilty and also the rich and it will not change soon as the people running it are literally a law onto themselves!

It is indeed a serious comparison, as an ex-police officer I would have thought you would regard breaking the law as all the same whether it be tax evasion or anything else. As for 'when did profit come out of court cases' - you started that by asking if spending £8 million (which is unconfirmed by the way) to chase this smaller tax amount was worth it. I wondered why the financial side of the case would have any bearing on what crimes should be pursued. Surely the amounts of money involved make the crime no worse nor better - the crime is constantly the same - no?

"as an ex police officer...."

what has that got to do with being aware of the difference between not guilty and guilty. In fact judging by your reference to "an innocent (cough) tax dodger" you appear not to know the difference.

"the legal system in the UK is not one to be proud of"

in my opinion, it is a damned sight better than many, many other places in the world

"and is stacked in favour of the guilty"

[?] I'm afraid I don't understand that. In this country nobody is guilty until proven so.

Couldn't agree more Keith. There should be NO distinction, I mean, why the hell is there a legal distinction between 'Theft' & 'Petty Theft'?, it's either stolen or it's Not stolen. You cannot enter a plea of  'Petty Murder', just because the victim was only shot/stabbed once, rather than being butchered, or can you ??
