Royal Mail is producing 11 stamps of Famous/Iconic British Footballers.
This is the list.
Gordon Banks, Bobby Moore, Dave Mackay, John Charles, Bryan Robson, Denis Law, Bobby Charlton, John Barnes, George Best, Jimmy Greaves, Kevin Keegan.
Now who do you think is missing?
I will start it off Ian Rush, King Kenny.

Seriously - I think whoever you put in there would be the same call for the one who had to leave to accommodate him.

No Geoff Hurst or Gary Lineker but career international underachiever John Barnes is in? Outrageous.

Gordon Banks, great yes, always remembered for great save against Pele, but not as good as Peter Shilton. IMHO.

On the subject of Gordon Banks...

Where I used to work, football was not a subject for any of the women in our department but they did try, bless them. Gordon Banks was actually the only name one lady to come up with. Sensing football wasn't a subject that was going to last I decided to throw in a bit of trivia. "Did you know, he had a car crash and he's blind in one eye?"

"I certainly didn't know that. Imagine how good he'd have been with sight in both eyes"...

It's all about being politically correct:

Gordon Banks - disabled - one eye.

Dave Mackay - Scottish - Spurs

John Charles - Welsh

Bryan Robson - Manu

Denis Law - Scottish and Manu

Bobby Charlton - Bald and Manu

John Barnes - Black - Liverpool

George Best - Irish, Alcoholic and Manu

Jimmy Greaves - Alcoholic and Spurs

Kevin Keegan - Perm and Liverpool

Seriously though - John Barnes? Charles was probably the most versatile player of all time - only Paul Madeley comes any where close imo.

I can understand most of the names and I guess they had to stop somewhere. Billy Bremner would have been in it for me though - along with Liam Brady.
