Title: Dental Implants - cost & reccommendations?
Post by: lindacarl on November 10, 2005, 17:04:26 PM
Hi All
Yes, I've done a search on here first but could find little concrete information on who has been to what dentist & whether they were happy & actual cost.

Problem - I have a tooth that needs attention. I do have a dental appointment next week for a check-up initially at a cost of £35 just for the check-up. Now I'm seriously wondering whether to keep this appointment & just have it seen to in Turkey.

I previously had asked my dentist about implants but he doesn't seem too keen to do this for me. The thought of dentures makes me feel sick & the tooth I'm now having problems with is next to one that has already been taken out. I have the feeling that my dentist will be pull crazy on this one too.

Has anyone had implants over there? Are you happy with them? Costs? Which dentist did you use & where are they located? Is there one that specialises in this form of work? Does he/she speak good English?

We are hoping to come out next month for a couple of months & I think I'd like to get this sorted in Turkey rather than pay privately here - unfortunately I'm one of those who hasn't got an NHS dentist.

Any info. would be appreciated.

Linda

Hi there, I haven't personally had implants out here but do know a couple of people who have.

A friend of a friend had them done last year for around 10-20% of the price in the UK and was very happy with the work.

I have a dentist in Fethiye who has been recommended to me as very good.  I am going to see her for a clean and check up next week.  I will ask her about implants and the associated costs and post when I have some news.

Have had clean, check up and filling work done whilst in Fethiye. Excellent treatment, great views from the surgery and very good value compared to UK. In fact I use them as my local now. Had some crowns priced and they were considerably cheaper than in UK.

Although I haven't used him myself there is a dentist that comes highly recommended. My partner's son and the husband of a forum member have both been to him. His name is Kadir Sarihan and he has a surgery close to the PTT in Fethiye. He's got very modern equipment and he speaks good English. He's also very cheap in comparison to UK dentists.

If you want his details e-mail me through the forum.

Try this one .....website is www.dental-holiday.com   surgery is in Fethiye and the site lists costs for various proceedures and also gives uk price for comparison.  You will fall off your chair when you see some of the prices. :)

I fell off my chair when I saw the UK prices.

Where did they get those prices from? I pay privately but have never paid anywhere near that much.
Is my dentist here that much less expensive than others?
From memory over the last few years I have paid approximately the Turkish cost in ££'s instead of $$'s.

The crowns I had fitted were quite a few years back but I had the new superclean (lazer?) last year for £35 & an extraction last year for around £35.

I may reconsider having the work done here if there isn't too much difference. The only problem is I don't think he's too keen on giving me implants.

Are the prices on that site expensive or normal? Is my dentist here much cheaper than normal?

No Linda I don't think they're normal at all.
I've just had one extraction, one small filling and a laser clean - £86.

Anne
Was that in this country or Turkey?
Which are the un-normal prices - My dentist or the Turkish prices?

Wow!  Teeth are probably my specialist subject and I have paid for both private and NHS work.  I paid privately for a wisdom tooth removed - £200, private gum work which ended up with a remortgage and only yesterday paid for an NHS dentist root canal filling (ouch!) with one x-ray, £35.00. I think the Turkish Dentists have been "filled" with misinformation on what we pay and they should consider an extraction!

Linda I would consider a long drive in the UK.  Check out the NHS website where there is a link to dentists, put in your postcode and it comes up with the nearest dentists that are taking on patients.  You can always pretend you live somewhere else - I noticed that mine is taking on new patients if you fancy a trip to Birmingham!!!

PS - have you considered a bridge rather than an implant?

Implants will only be good if the gum and jaw bone in the area is healthy. Often it is not just the tooth that is bad.

A bridge is a simple job. The tooth or teeth that will be used to support the new 'tooth' will have to be strong enough for the job otherwise they might not last as long if they had been on their own. Some care in eating will be needed in the future so as not to break the fitting - jaws have a lot of power!

Sometimes it is worth spending the time to have the gums peeled back and the diseased bone removed and the gums stiched back in place.

That was in UK Linda.
I'd go with Lynne and consider a bridge, I've had one for 15 years now and never had a bit of bother with it.

A Turkish friend of ours had veneers done on his top teeth this year-they look really good-and cost £400!!! Would have been in the thousands in the UK.
Sorry don't know where he had them done-only that it was in Fethiye.

Check up £26
Full Clean £52
Full Teeth Bleaching £416
White Composite or amalgam Fillings: £52ea
Crowns and veneers £104 ea.

My dentist in London isn't even that much.

Am checking out another dentist in Fethiye next week, his family have been dentists for 3 generation and he speaks English will keep you posted.

Seems the Turkish dental practices have used some imagination in their estimates of UK prices. For bridgework Dental Holiday says UK prices are £500 per tooth, Fethiye Dental Centre says £2000! I had this work done privately this year in UK at £300 per tooth. However, the Turkish prices quoted are much lower, Dental Holiday = £130 and Fethiye DC = £115 is even cheaper so it had no need to invent the silly UK numbers.
