Title: Six Nations 2016
Post by: Colwyn on February 04, 2016, 15:33:08 PM
Yes, it starts on Saturday. Thoroughly looking forward to it. We begin with an appetizer of France v Italy. As ever we wonder what sort of France will turn up and we hope Italy will beat somebody - as long as it isn't our team! Then we are on to "resurgent" Scotland v England under new dynamic coach. Jones says the Scots must be favourites. But he would say that wouldn't he? Is Scotland really making a comeback? Can England put memories of the World Cup to bed? On Sunday we get "The Big Two": Ireland and Wales who have shared the last four 6Ns between them. Of course I'm shouting for Wales and getting my red rugby shirt out of the drawer. But you have to worry about the champions playing at home.

Looks like a great weekend of sport.

Wholly agree, Colwyn. Really looking forward to it.

Seems to be a very open 6 Nations this year.

Of course, my white shirt will be on but for me no team shines through as obvious favourites.

I'll give a donation to 3 C's if and when England beat Wales plus an extra bit if England top the group.

An extra £10 every time Dylan Hartley gets sent off!

(I'll double that if Wales or Scotland win the group - non English family members have added that clause).

I've started saving now......(don't worry 3 C's - the amount, I'm sure, will be the same regardless of outcome).

Not the French though - please not the French. My life would be unbearable (French partner).

Just been checking.......

it seems that only Scotland and Italy have never won the 6 Nations.

Italy - no chance this year or anytime in the near future but perhaps there is a chance that the Scots will get their hands on the trophy this year (if they can find a Scottish engraver).

Sorry, Ma. Couldn't resist that one.

Yeah, Burke & Hare are no longer about - oh, hang on, they were disengravers weren't they?

Someone is ready for the big match this afternoon. I hope she'll be in a Wales shirt tomorrow
but her (Irish) father might have other thoughts about that.

She's absolutely gorgeous, Colwyn. Great photo. Fine looking shirt!

Let's hope the two underdogs (Italy and England) do it today.

Hoping for a draw tomorrow.

Have a good weekend.......

Chariot still swinging.......

Made it....just.

Not pretty but a workmanlike job.

Lots more to come, I hope. Big improvements to be made but Italy should allow a chance to develop as a team.

Tomorrow's game will, I hope, be a joy to watch. Should be exciting with two of the best teams in the world playing.

France sneaked a win over Italy. Italy were possibly the better team; they were certainly the more entertaining. I suppose England deserved their win in Scotland with considerable help from their rolling maul. It is not an aspect of the game I enjoy and I think the laws on it need looking at. I'd also like to see scrums where hookers hook the ball - but I suppose that is hopelessly old-fashioned of me. Both games featured a ridiculous number of knock-ons and far too many penalties which decided the outcomes. Not much flowing rugby on display; Italy were probably the best on this.

Haven't seen a straight put in for years.

Always slanted to the scrum half's team.

That's where I would start.

Unfortunately StuartT will be unable to join us today. He is exhausted from his evening class for his new course in Advanced Debating. Yesterday evening was tutored by experts in talking gibberish, missing the point and getting on the wrong side of the Chair. Today he has homework to do; but not on this thread ... please.

I was on the edge of my seat, it was a fantastic game, I'm always torn when Wales play Ireland, I'm Welsh born and bred, but my mother was Irish, so we always had to shout for both sides growing up
Title: Re: Six Nations 2016

Both Ireland and Wales will be utterly shattered after yesterday's performance and both have to play in less than a week. Scotland and France are the fortunate beneficiaries of this. At least Wales don't have to travel, but Ireland have to jump on a plane.

Tonight 8.05
Are they just trying to confuse us? We've had 16.45 kickoffs, 14.25 and now 20.05 on a Friday. What next? Wednesday 18.22? Anyway. C'mon Wales knock the French off their unjustified winning streak!

Red and white tonight - for one night only.

Pretty much depends on which French team turns up that will determine the pattern of the game.

Haven't seen the teamsheets yet but both at full(ish) strength should provide a good game.

Wales odds on favourites. Hope they justify the bookies confidence.

Here goes......National anthems coming up soon.

Emotions high in this household.

All anthems (apart from England's gloomy dirge -  "Jerusalem" would be better or the theme tune to "The Archers" as suggested by Lenny Henry) are stirring.

"Delilah" really isn't doing it for me - theme song for some USA based ex Welshman.

I made a few pennies on the Ireland/Wales draw (great odds - most lucky) - Wales with a clear 10+ point win for me tonight.

"Bread of Heaven" - more like it. Tingly stuff.

Dull, dull, dull first half and not all to do with the English referee.

England will walk this 6 Nations Tournament.

9 points win - I got close with the 10+ point margin but lost my pennies.

Forgot that we (England) still have the Irish to beat at the weekend - not quite a walk home yet.

Nothing I've seen thus far to really frighten them, though apart from the fact that....

....there's always 25+ green shirts on the field when Ireland play England!

I'd built myself up for this one but it was dreadful. Only bright spot was that a lucky bounce and woeful defending allowed George North to carry on his try scoring revival. You might have missed it. He was travelling close to the speed of light.

Who would have thought that last year's champions would be fifth on just1 point after 3 games? I thought the most entertaining game was provided by the weakest two countries, Italy and Scotland (although the English will have enjoyed the last 20 minutes against Ireland). Is there a message in that? Perhaps our better teams are better at defence but lack attacking flair until the opposition is exhausted. I can't imagine that any of the Southern Hemisphere Big Three will be worried with what they've seen so far in 6N.

Mr Toky - you may well be correct.....but, hey, always prepared to be knocked down. Bit of fun innit?

2 weeks to the Wales game.

Of course, it won't be a walk home for England. It'll be a canter!!

(Tongue well embedded in cheek).

Kevin 3 - dearie me. I'm cut to the quick. You've obviously missed so much in your life......

Colwyn - probably correct - we're a few years behind them "up here" but with the southern hemisphere coaches we'll get there.

So, so professional now.

I never got paid - indeed, I had to pay weekly subs!

When England beat France next week in "gay Paris" there'll be some extra squids for 3C's.

My prediction on Feb 26th -  "England will walk this 6 Nations tournament" - Nostradamus and Mr. Toky eat your heart out - I shall blow my horn most loudly.

My winnings will go to a good cause - and I will be an obnoxious English git yet again!

I shall be smug, arrogant and superior for a few minutes. Typically English.

Dammit, I'm good at this prediction thing (by the way - comments are still a bit tongue still in cheek - who knows which French team will turn up).

By the way - Exeter Chiefs were screwed by an appalling referee in the game against Leicester.

Speaking on behalf of Bristol ... well I've had a few hours offline. Very sorry.

Strange weekend. First Ireland annhilated Italy. Then Wales forgot to turn up for 60 minutes before putting on the style. And today the French decided to go mad by throwing the ball about all over the place - to a Frenchman, to a Scot didn't make any difference. Good game to watch if you weren't a supporter of either side. Well done the Scots. Pity it let the English get the Championship without playing the last game in Paris. Nevermind, I'm glad the Scots have got a decent win at last. Congratulations to England for winning the Championship [why can't I find a emoticon for "through gritted teeth"].
