Title: Pay to park your car in Ölüdeniz
Post by: nichola on June 22, 2009, 22:09:02 PM
You now have to pay to park your car in Ölüdeniz. Money goes to Ölüdeniz Spor and its a one off price of 5TL per day/night- let the collector know if you are only going to be there a couple of hours in the evening and it may cost less - I ungraciously paid 2.5TL

Those who have to be there everyday for whatever reason can get a monthly permit for 90TL.

Or for those who begrudge parting with yet more cash can try parking a bit further up and away from the beach front and walk... although the collector told me there was no free parking anywhere in Ölüdeniz any more.

This may not be all the info so please feel free to add or correct...

Cheers

Nichola

Parked there yesterday evening as usual, on the side street, and no one towed me away, we,ve always done it, and never any problems, it takes 5 minutes to walk to the beach, no probs.

We use the last turn off on the left , just before the beach, next to the shop where they sell the para gliding trips, its only about 5 lira there, and handy for the beach.

We parked up by Kumsal Pide (right at the far end of the beach) last night and were surprised to be charged 2.5 TL for on street parking !!

Thanks nic, doesn't make it right for car drivers though. Are they trying to drive trade away,or is it a serious problem with parking that needs addressing? Also,I would suggest that if the fee was essential, then the revenue should be ploughed back into Olu,as its looking untidy/dirty in a lot of areas.

I believe Olu Belediye is a bit strapped for cash at the moment although I understand the car parking money is going to Olu Spor. Personally I'd rather have street lighting and I am sure the council staff would rather have their wages paid!

The car park boyz stop work at 9pm I've discovered so if you can stave off the hunger pangs until then you can park for free.

As for shortage of parking Tony, as the hotels on the Oba/Blue Star/Karbel Road have cordoned off more than half the street for themselves 'No Parking Allowed just Flower Pots' to ensure you can't fail to notice them - yes there is a bloomin' shortage of car parking... I bet they don't pay for the 28 million car parking places they take up!

Nic we were told by Erkin the owner of the Help Bar, that legally they cannot cordon off the areas outside their hotels. He told us to move a pot & park and if they confront us to say call the Jandarma as it is a public road and they have no authority to stop anyone parking there.
Will get brave enough to try it one day.

I saw the first car being loaded and towed away today - a taxi double parked and the pure cheek of him, he'd also blocked one of the three entrances of one of the hotels...

Fi/Eric, now, since when did a 'right or wrong' have anything to do with anything? These hotels, also usually the land owners have more clout in their little finger than the whole of the the membership of this forum!

But actually we did once park in a cordoned off area and told them to go right ahead and call the Jandarma and where to find us when (if) they came... nothing happened but not so sure I would try it now the tow trucks have arrived.

Common sense should be used. No one likes having to pay for most services including parking. Take Fethiye eight years ago hardly any cars on the road at all, now like it or not a car conjested town. Thank goodness for the marked and orgaised parking at a reasonable cost. Look at the benifits Fethiye has been able to generate with the income. Olu Deniz is no exception, car conjestion. Us very people that complain are the same people who will say Olu Deniz Beli should be doing the same. Say what you like Keramettin and his team have done a good job over the years and cash is obviously in short supply for ALL the things that need attention. Remember Olu Deniz Beli extends to the top of the Fethiye big hill and includes Hisaronu and Ovacik.

Remember it is the tourist and property owner who have created the monster, maybe to get all we request we should contribute more. Do we want suburbia or be more towards the natural ideal, we prefer the happy medium.

Cars are a problem world wide not just in Olu Deniz. We give our parkin fee with a wry smile
