I think last October Inspector was charging 200tl  for a full, lead you around by the hand, service + any disbursements (tax, health insurance etc). I was a bit braver, got a list of documents, which he checked over for me & paid 50tl + disbursements

A recent article on fb stated that it is now illegal for a 3rd party to do your residency for you.
Not sure how it will be policed.
Its so simple I don't know why anyone parts with good money for help anyway.

Can i apply for residency ( short term) online and will it tell me all the documents I need and then give me an appointment to go for a face to face interview? Is that basically all there is to it, I do quite fancy giving it a go on my own, not just to save some money but il be very pleased with myself after if i do it successfully   :)

Yes, it tells you what you need.. Its in English too..
Hardest bit is knowing which desk to go to in tax office & what to ask for in nufus office but plenty of people can help you with that and plenty of websites that talk you through the process.

Linda, I find that remark very condescending. It's all very well when you know your way around the various belediye offices & can speak some Turkish, but for anyone else, it can be a very daunting process, especially if you encounter the cow in the nufus office. I hadn't been through the process for 5 years, during which time so much had changed. Paying 50tl to have the knowledge that I wasn't going to have to run back & forth many times was a very small price to pay.

The point I also made is it's very easy to find people to help.
Last week I explained to a friend and drew diagrams of where the relevant desks are & wrote down in phonetic Turkish what she needed to ask for.
Free...
As it was in the Nufus a man approached her & took her to the desk and asked for her.
