Help pls! Overland to Turkey - 23rd Aug-6th Sept
« on: August 09, 2007, 14:05:34 PM »
Hello all, haven't been on here for a while, but have a crisis in the office.....so hoping that, from the wealth of Turkish travel experience on here, someone might be able to offer some help/guidance.

The wife of one of the guys here has just been told by her doctor that she can't fly.....and the family are due to travel to Antalya on 23rd August returning on 6th September.

She is happy to make her way overland - has anyone travelled to Turkey by train or bus.....I doubt there's anyone heading over by car for the same 2 weeks who could offer a lift?!?!  ;)

If anyone has any (sensible) suggestions they would be much appreciated!

Thank you, Senga

Ulusoy go between Paris and Istanbul otherwise you can get a train but you will have to change several times and takes for ever.

If you can't drive then take a train to Ancona or Brindisi depending on the day the ferry leaves (http://www.marmaralines.com/eindex.htm) and get the ferry to Cesme. Bus from Cesme to Izmir and then you can go anywhere in Turkey.

Eric's recommendation of the Seat61 website is excellent and should show you how to plan the trains.

The journey will be pricey though.

Thanks to all for all the very useful links.

I've passed them on, so hopefully they will be able to work something out - though it does look like it might cost as much as the family holiday again, just to get there!
