I think it’s a difficult one for the authorities involved as they will be worrying about his public persona since retirement and all of the publicised issues and problems his alcoholism brings. They must be concerned that if they give this and something else happens it will reflect upon them/ the award. However that said if it was football alone he should be given it.

I agree.  I sympathise with anyone with any illness but this man has had support seldom available to less well off people.  He is not a role model or good example to up and coming youngsters.

Paul Gascoigne was a terrific footballer and you cant take it away from him, one of the best goals I have seen him score is the one against Scotland. He only played for a short while in Scottish football so on that note I vote no.

For what reason was it withdrawn?

Paul Gascoigne says he "doesn't need to be in the Scottish Football Hall of Fame to be recognised as one of the best".

The former Rangers midfielder's place in the Hall of Fame was criticised and withdrawn on Thursday amid "concerns" over his health.

"I played some of my best football at Rangers," Gascoigne tweeted.

The 51-year-old said Rangers' Hall of Fame, in which he is inducted, is the "only one" that matters.

He added he "feels the love and support" of the Ibrox club's fans.
