Post by: pookie on February 05, 2009, 16:52:30 PM
We thought we'd have a couple of days 'down south' when we visit in June.  I hear theres lots of nice places to explore and Lottie is particular keen to visit the Aqua Park :D Can any one recommend a nice B&B in Kaleici ? or recommend some places we should visit ?  (Is Olimpos worth a stop ?) (Kekova ?)  Thank you from The Pookies [:X]

Hi Pookie. A very pretty little hotel in Kaleici is the Aspen. Its an old ottoman house thats been converted but has still retained its character. Its only a few minutes stroll down to the beach next to the old harbour. They were asking 80Lira for a single room in June last year but managed to get the price down to 40 Lira.Check it out on the web. I have a card somewhere with phone number which I will email you when I can find it.Highly recommended.

Thanks everyone.  The Aspen sounds just what we were looking for, we wanted something close to the harbour, but traditional and a good base to explore from.  Aspendos was on our list, but I wasn't sure how close it was to Antalya, we'll definitely give that a go, and if we can get tickets for ballet during our stay that would be fantastic.  Thanks for all your comments - keep them coming !  - I'm not sure 2-3 days are going to be enough !

Some places to visit.

Perge, Düden waterfalls,Kursunlu waterfalls,Ataturk house,Museum ,cable car ride near Kemer, Lara beach.Ataturk parki.Side.Aspendos.Cam pyramid for cultural events.Termessos.The caves at Kahrain.

Don't do a boat trip. They are rubbish compared with what you get in Fethiye!

oh, Apollo - think we need a full week now !   My books don't seem to have anything about the caves or the Kursunlu waterfalls - both sound interesting.  I'll have to do some more investigating.  Thank you.   Any photos ?

I have some photos somewhere. When I find them I will try and post them. There is also the mini or model city.

For the evenings.
Near the clock tower above Kaleiçi there is a new large fountain. Music is played, the fountains dance and colours change etc. You can spend a relaxing half hour sitting there.

There is also Beach Park on Konyaalti(near the Sheraton)There are lots of restaurants, it gets very busy. A tram ride from Kaleiçi to the end of the track a stroll down to and along the promenade, there are beach side cafes and bars and behind them are the main restaurants. Then walk or taxi back home.
