Title: Olympic Venue Tickets ?
Post by: valleyboy on July 28, 2012, 21:34:15 PM
I'm a little confused (which isn't difficult !) ???, with all the pre - games fuss over the availability of Olympic venue tickets, why is it that every event I've watched today on television, it appears that only about half the seats are occupied ??, I thought it was a sell out  ??? ??

Me too  ???  lots of people I know wanted but couldn't get tickets. Even the commentators commentated on the very large number of empty seats.

And you can be sure that Lordie Coe will dismiss it with some excuse or other.

A great runner in his time, but he really gets on my elbow now.

Probably just the same as at a lot of major sporting events, where corporate clients buy up chunks of tickets, but the guests they invite are only interested in the wining & dining aspect & not at all in watching the event

Got to agree on this issue H, a tremendous athlete in his day and you can't take that away from him, but now his head seems to be a bit too far up his own backside ! (at the risk of sounding a little crude !!  :-[).

The news later last night answered some of my questions (also the press today as highlighted by KKOB), it appears a lot of the empty seats were due to them being allocated to sponsors, but surely they weren't allocated that many ??, and if they were, why ??, the Games are supposed to be for the People !, another fine example of the unacceptable face of capitalism !  :(

If it was down to me I would cancel all sponsors tickets with immediate effect and immediately put all the tickets up for sale to the general public at a range of affordable prices.

How rude to have tickets to the best seats in the house and just not turn up!

Or give them away for free as they would have presumably have been "free" to the sponsors in the first place.

Organisers wouldn't make any money but wouldn't lose any either.

That would be great to have some freebies and even selling tickets at £5, £10, £15... which most people could afford would generate income to a) cover the admin costs to do this and b) generate some income to offset the continued costs involved in the admiral efforts of the organizers for a sustainable Olympics project...

Yes I did, he came back really well, didn't think he would do it at one point.
They're showing a great mix of sport on Eurosport, not usually an Olympic fan but really enjoying it, must have been inspired by the fab ceremony!

What are you all talking about? All the venues are "stuffed to the gunnels" according to Lord Coe.

Do you think it's because G4S were supposed to be supplying the audience for these events ?  :-\

Fill the seats if empty after 30 mins - sounds like a plan and next time I say allocate tickets to the "Olympic family" to the top rows not the best seats in the house

Also just heard the chairperson (politically correct) on BBC World News say "we are changing things and you have to remember this is not a precise science"

Well pardon me love (non politically correct) that might be where you are going wrong - let me explain - 5000 seats + 5000 bums on them = 100%

God it all went downhill when they grouped Physics / Biology and Chemistry together !!!

We tried and failed to get tickets in all the ballots, and keep looking on the site all the time with no luck. It is very frustrating especially when avid sports fans don't get any tickets.

Still we have flown to the UK not to miss the experience and have seen the cycling and are going to the time trials tomorrow and will watch the triathlons and marathons as you can do that without a ticket. We were also were lucky enough to see the opening ceremony concert.

We are still checking the website constantly with the faint hope of getting a ticket, you never know!

The atmosphere here is fabulous, everything else we have experienced has been excellent. The games makers are everywhere and are very helpful. We have been very impressed so far.

I have my fingers crossed that Istanbul are successful in thrir bid and we get to see something there in 2012, wouldn't that be great?
