Hi, we have been on Lemon 4 since 2006 (bought off plan via Scunner) have had the normal teething problems but it is now established and we have a good crowd on board.

Gordon and Loz have watched Lemon 4 grow over the years and helped us all in one way or another.

Feel free to pm if you need further info.

Gunlukbasi is certainly not full of gypsies.  We love it.

We are at our place in Gunlukbasi now, Capricorn. Third visit this year. Lemon 4 is the one up the road I think. Not seen any gypsies yet. I think some people are on a wind up.

I think somebody is winding you up. We walk through he wedding circle most day. There are few old men playing backgammon just before  there and occasionally some young Turkish kids on bikes at the wedding circle.  Pop down one afternoon and have a look. More than happy to meet up if it will help make your dream come true.

As Badger stated in his post I visited this complex before ground was broken. I did weekly (or more like daily) updates for a friend buying on the complex, then other buyers on the same complex wanted to have info too, so a part of this forum was opened up by Scunner so that I could post photos of the build stages, and also going into each apartment when asked to take photos of certain aspects of their own apartments.

I got talking with the builder, developers and of course the nearby Turkish neighbours, one of whom would save plants from dying by being trampled by the builders boots.  His grandchildren would bound up and chatter away. they also had (as part of the build of lemon 4) a new family block built opposite, which they invited me to view.

The old chaps playing board games around the Wedding circle would doff their hats smile and chat. other neighbours would come out to offer me water or Tea.

I would say that this is a very friendly area, nearby hotel although changed hand since I used it, I have been reliably informed that a warm welcome awaits. a very short walk for the Dolmus to all directions. short walk to shops in Gunlukbasi, neighbours who reside all year and (touch wood) no problems on site, and the Sunday market could not be more convenient, with local popular bars/restaurants.

Never, not once had I seen or noted drugs deals, fights, and believe me i would have hit the roof and raised hell. Now if you had said this happening in the centre of Calis on a busy tourist prom I could well believe you.

Who is telling you these stories? an agent who did not get your business? a very jealous friend, name them, then this could start to make sense, if this is the case drop them, you don't need 'friends' like this, they are nothing but bad news.

As badger alluded to. We have been on the complex since day 1. yes we have had a few teething problems but hey we bought in Turkey not up the road. I can only vouch for my family but we love out little place in the sun. After 8 years it feels as though it was yesterday when we took the plunge and bought. The complex has now grown up and is looking really nice. As for the surrounding area we have the best of both worlds. Local shops, Local bars Cann hotel Reg will make you very welcome., 2 mins from market if that is your thing, dolmus top of street and only 20 min stroll to front. You pay your money and takes your choice. 8) 8) 8)

This post is music to our ears, we have just today received our keys to our new apartment on LEMON 4. We had a good look around before we bought it, but have to say after going onto the complex and speaking to the previous owner Freda, and chatting with other owners, we were totally taken with the place. It is in a lovely spot, near to shops, bars and market and we can't wait to go out on Monday. Have to say a big thanks to Cenk and Olga, who guided us through the buying process, and Scunner and everyone else who gave us good advice along the way.  ;)  ;)

Thank you all so much. My slik doesnt show his feelings much
When we went to see the place he could see us living there and felt totally at ease.
If it was a case of jealous friends or a ticked off agent then he wouldnt have done a
360. We have had friends who live in Turkey, waiters, shop keepers who all
say its not a good area it seems to be the general consensus down here.
I am a city girl and can usually pick up if an area is iffy and I didnt. Slik is a small town boy and gets very worried re the kids grandkids been able to run freely. Our move, when we do it will be a permanent one,not a holiday home so it has to be right.
Thanks again for all your comments. I am hoping a friends friend who lives there will talk some
Peace of mind into him too.
Thanks all

Congratulations Chris35 - I am sure you will have many happy times at Lemon 4.

The only concern I would have is to be wary if you meet a West Ham fan or a Hull City fan - that both are slightly deluded owners on Lemon 4 and think they will finish in the top 10 places this coming season - some odd folk about     ;)

Congratulation Chris. It is a shame we will just miss you.

Bernie,

I think it is down to who you believe. The nice people of this forum who have nothing to gain and who have obviously been coming here for years, or waiters and shop keepers who just might want you to buy close to them.

Hopefully your friends advice will do the trick.  As I said in an earlier post though, walk through Gunlukbasi at different times of the day to get a feel for the area.  It would be a shame to lose your dream home because of 'hearsay'

Thanks Ian, I am sure we will meet up at sometime as we are over in September next.
Bernie, what Ian says is correct, we must have walked 15 miles all around the area at different times to get a feel of the place, and can honestly say we found nothing at all to put us off. As regards waiters, as much as we love most of them, they are always on commission , and can hear a whisper over three fields. You maybe having a meal in a far corner of a restaurant and you utter the words "BOAT TRIP". They are over like a flash trying to sell you one with the promise of "BEST FOOD ON BOARD" and only 30 people allowed. You know how it goes. Well it's the same with property, they don't want you to buy a resale they want you to buy a new build that is being built by their brothers, nephews cousin etc, that they can get a drink or more out of.
But, take as much advice as you can before making a decision ,it's always the best thing to do. This forum is full of it, so no regrets.

Hi Angela, I stand corrected if I am wrong, but the wedding circle is a circular roofed public area near to the Lemon 4 apartments and Can hotel. It is used by the Turkish for wedding receptions and other celebrations. To see exactly where it is, open google earth and enter "fethiye foca mahallesi". look for what looks like a round broken cart wheel with a black centre. The black centre is the "Wedding Circle". The word Fethiye is more or less directly over the Wedding Circle. Hope this helps

I was told by a Turkish man from Kaya that Calis is dive and Gunlukbasi is full of Gypsies and I should never tell people we live there.
We are at the bottom of a hill by the old peoples home and next to a farm (are these the Gypsy people they refer to do you think?) Perhaps they mean peasants as they work the land? or are there Gypsie camps around?  It is lovely and quiet where we are and the local people are very nice. How anyone can sit on the seafront in Calis and say it is a dive I just don't know. That view is just so stunning with the added bonus of the most  beautiful sunset. I think Calis is a great place for families, no hills to climb with pushchairs or wheelchairs. The water taxi to Fethiye and dolmus to everywhere.  :)  So much to offer.

We had assumed that it was the venue for a mid-week fruit and veg market !!!!

Gunlukbasi 2 is where the so called gypsies used to live, all there camps and the shanty town was cleared about 3 years ago, there is a community centre on the site now. We live near the farms round the Huzereve, they are hard working decent people.

If certain "doom-bringers" are using the presence of so-called "gypsies" & beggars to define an area as being unfit/unsafe in which to live, surely Fethiye Town Centre must (wrongly), be judged as such!! I have lost count as to the amount of times I have encountered Turkish people sitting on the kerb with a, sadly deformed child in their lap, asking for money, in the centre of Fethiye !! Many "village" Turkish people may dress differently to the ones who are living in towns & cities, & give the appearance of being "rough", when they may not be, surely it is up to them how they dress/look, & if anyone takes the wrong signals from it, they are the ones with a problem, NOT the Turkish people.
By the way, Loz & I lived in Akarca, which is on the main road to Gunlukbasi, for 6 very happy years, NO British neighbours, No British bars/nightclubs, only the best, most helpful neighbours,(all Turkish), that we have ever had the pleasure of knowing.
Learn to accept people, after all, it IS their country, not ours, if you cannot, go back to Britain, & live beside REAL gypsies !! You all know to whom I refer !!  8)

Not Gunlukbasi,  we lived in 3 different properties in Tasyaka, all our neighbours were Turkish and we couldn't have been happier living there. They were the kindest most welcoming neighbours you could have wished for, some were professional people others with not a lot of money but their caring sharing attitude to life was wonderful. Because we have several pets we moved from apartment living to detached, Oh how I miss my lovely neighbours but we do keep in touch. I think showing a respect for their culture does help in harmonious living.

Absolutely your loss I'm afraid - sadly too many 'locals', both Turkish and British have hidden agendas, many are staring at returning to the UK As funds dwindle and prices increase, and steering you away from any property and towards the agent who will pay them a wedge is all they are interested in. It's nothing to do with Lemon 4, it's their survival instinct. Trust me, I know how it works.

You will never find a Lemon 4 owner who doesn't love it, and you will be hard pushed to find a complex better run too. My only disappointment with Lemon 4 is that there are only 20, back in the day I could have sold 80.

Unlike the expat know it alls and rival agents who's opinions you have valued over those of our members (please do not take that as cutting, it is not meant to be, just a statement of fact) - I have no interest, financial or otherwise in Lemon 4 or anywhere else, I have interrupted my well earned break through pure disappointment that such inaccurate opinions have managed to put you off a place that really is as good as you first thought.

Now where's that Samir with my piƱa colada.

Karaokemark we have a place by the Huzerevi also. We just love it there. We are opposite the tomato farm. They work so hard. So nice to see them building their little extensions over the years and building new green houses. Love how they bring the cows home from the canal every evening and often stop to let the sheep graze on the piece of land next to us. Then last year the three roaming turkeys. when we were there in June I looked up to see 2 camels walking by.  Makes us laugh so much! This is what makes it special. So there was a gypsy camp but not anymore! Had our place 9 years, and didn't know it was there. Never had any problem in Gunlukbasi When we have been shopping! Ovacik doesn't do it for me I am afraid but hope you will be happy there slikmrs  :)
