Mr WB thoroughly enjoyed the pickled onions he bought at the Çaliş Christmas fair so I've agreed to make some for him.
Can anyone tell me which vinegar they use, as I didn't see an obvious 'malt vinegar' or similar on the supermarket shelves yesterday....
I've only looked in Migros so far,to be fair, as it's not an urgent project, but if anyone wants to point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it. :)

Pickling vinegar (tursu) is available in most shops..

Ok thank you, I will look for that.
I've never pickled anything in my life - except arguably my liver ;D - so I was just looking at the rows of apple/lemon/balsamic etc in confusion!

They tend to use grape vinegar here for pickling you can usually get in large plastic jars for a few lira in most supermarkets.

Try pickling shallots as well if they are available. I prefer them to pickled onions and Mr WB might too.

You could try what my wife did the first time she made pickled onions. She bought pickling vinegar and then added pickling spices. My word they did bring a tear to the eye.

Ah, I did wonder Philrose as there was more of it than anything else and in larger containers.
I found some tursu and have bought my onions, so I'm all set.
And Colwyn - that did make me laugh!
