Title: The Irish Problem
Post by: Scunner on August 15, 2016, 19:57:56 PM
My IP (Virgin Media) has been the same for as long as I can remember - till last week when it changed, and now doing a location search on my own IP puts me firmly in the Dublin area. No idea why, and there's no performance loss or similar - it's just that websites now use the info to send me to the wrong websites - I type a co.uk web address and it kindly takes me to the .ie version.

Any thoughts on what I can do (apart from nothing)? Cheers!

If I'd known all this was going to happen I'd never have got that Irish passport

Try this: https://whatismyipaddress.com/update-location

See if all providers are putting you in the same place, i.e. ROI.

Curious.  When I do a geo search on your IP it's showing you as being pretty much where you should be.  In fact, your IP is within a range not to far away from mine.

Yes me too now, and I'm not getting the .ie sites

Another problem solved on CBF!

CBF...  the panacea for all ills  :)

Incidentally, there have been a few folks struggling with IP geo location with VM, often after they've upgraded their hub.  The explanation for how it happens is so technical and boring I'm not even going to start explaining it.

You got one of the new hubs, as in did you take the free upgrade about 6/9months ago?

Dont get in a pickle over it.

Try switching hub off, disconnect the input (data) connection and leave it for five mins.  Power it all up and see if you're still in Dundalk.

I'm surprised you haven't got an IP address in Harrogate. You seem to spend most of your life there.  ;)

I'm back, thanks John. I do like it over there but it's so expensive since they got the euro.
