With all the lovely greens at the markets is there any reason no one seems to sell Coriander, just started a pot of my own, surely there is some call for it in Turkey maybe in the Indian restaurants?

Coriander is like marmite, some love it some hate it. I usually take over packages of dried herbs as I never see dill or tarragon in the shops.

Fruit and veg stalls always had plenty of coriander when we were living there. Ask "Kişniş varmi ?"
The same with dill. We used to buy it regularly in the markets and Migros sold it pre-packed.

I'd have some off you, Pompeylee - I rarely see any.
Wanted some on Friday, went all round the Friday market and three fruit & veg shops plus Migros in Hisaronu....nope. Plenty of dill, parsley and mint but no coriander.
Will be growing my own I think as I am finding I want to use it more and more frequently.

I'll send you Coriander if you send me some Sumac. Can't find any in the many spice shops in Brum. I need some for Turkish recipes. :(

Never seen Coriander on the Friday Market WB but there is stall that sells it on the Tuesday and Sunday markets.Most of the local Indians use flat leafed parsley as Coriander and hope you don't notice. ;)

I think M&S do Sumac Kevin, also Waitrose and I'm sure Tesco.

Plenty of Sumac on Eblag and Amazon. Tesco sell it in their larger stores in the Oriental Section.

I was just looking in my spices box (for Sumac source) and found this! My granddaughter goes straight to find this bottle when she's here! Lol!

Silly me, looking for Sumac in spice shops. I only use Lidl & Aldi supermarkets,I wont buy food from the other robbing sods.

You can get it fresh on the markets in the early summer its called Kişniş in Turkish. I normally buy it when available and either dry or freeze it..

At Sunday market its the end stall nearest manzara flats. Last aisle before the clothes etc start.

Most sell it dried, but havnt seen any Coriander fresh.

I have also looked for Tarragon and Dill in the local supermarkets and even have the Turkish names written down. Never seen any and even asked the assistant. I now take it with me.

Ah the quest for taze kişniş. I know it well.
The Tuesday market guy who occasionally sells it is at the river end of the fruit and veg tunnel. So with your back to the river and the footbridge also just behind you look down the right side of the tunnel. He is near you on the left (of the right hand tunnel) just before the tunnel ends and becomes sky. Largish bloke with big tummy, round face in his late 30s perhaps. You have to ask him for it (tarzay kishnish cos it isn't always on top of his stall.
Failing that, the big Migros in the centrum have had it in film bags. Occasionally.
Failing that Akgünler Wholesale Manav on the Taşyaka road will order it in for you from Antalya.

I always get fresh coriander at the sunday Market no problem from a lady in the last aisle. as you walk down from the end furthest from Migros shes about 3/4 stalls in all she usually sells is fresh herbs / lettuce / cabbage . Its always in the same place bottom right hand side of the table. 1tl for a smallish bunch. Maybe it sells out quick , but theres always a fair few bunches when I go about half 9-10ish

Thats right, and the only stall that has it.
Noticed this week its gone up to 1.5tl.

Not much use to Lee , but this week Aldi are selling coriander and Parsley for 45p per bunch. Not posh but cheap and tasty.
Just bought some. ;)

Coming from one of UK's curry capitals, we seldom see fresh Coriander in the dish and never sprinkled over the top as a garnish.

And one of the stall holders tried to sell us flat leaf parsley once, swearing it was coriander (cilantro). I think the smell is really obvious but to avoid any confusion or hoodwinking here this little diagram:

In Birmingham, Coriander means "an Indian meal with the Mrs"

I always manage to buy coriander in Calis market on Sunday but only 1 stall sells it

Bought some at the Saturday market yesterday.
My son then made chicken and red pepper curry with the fresh coriander added ten minutes before the end of cooking. It was exceptionally good.

I have two pots now thanks to Saffet in Ovacik. Both growing nicely. 8)

We tried growing it from seed here and it failed miserably, unlike back in sheffield where it threatened to take over our entire garden.
Will visit our Saffet then ;)

What I planted 4 weeks ago with seed from the UK has just started to sprout properly, planted seed from Sunday market Tuesday hopefully will grow a bit quicker.

The coriander seeds I got from the spice stall at the Sunday market grew fine & am just starting a 3rd lot.
