Is it a good idea to buy glasses in Turkey - I recall you can take your UK prescription and get much cheaper glasses in Turkey, but in the back of my mind I also recall a couple of stories where this didn't go well? Might be wrong there though.
If it's a good idea, where should I be taking my newly made prescription when we are next out?

Mrs KKOB and I have had a number of pairs of glasses made in Turkey in the past and never had any problems with them. I'd definitely have the eye test done in the UK though.
We used to go to Start Optics in Oludeniz but I've no doubt that there will be members on here who can give you advice based on their more recent purchases.

Price and quality has greatly improved in the U.K. In recent years the cost of prescription glasses in Turkey (Fethiye) has risenand they are no longer a bargain. On the plus side, they do have some very nice styles that you can’t get in the U.K.

Had my eye test done here and bought glasses here. No issues.

I live here and cant fault the service, but being here a long time highlights a problem.
Every pair of glasses I have had, except one, have broken after around 4 months. Ok they have been repaired without cost and one pair of unbreakable flexi glasses were repaired 4 times before I ditched them.
If I had been here just on holiday then several, not so cheap. glasses would of ended up in the bin in UK.

I got mine from the place opposite Ali's bar. The lens are far better than anything I've had from specsavers or boots. I have varifocals/transitions and paid a lot less than at home.
My distance vision is also quite good but these days it's awful close up so I find varifocals the best alternative as can't be bothered putting specs on and off to read menus etc.

I use Star optics, paid 800tl last April, for varifocals with reactolite lenses, light weight unbreakable lenses, so I was told. made the lenses myself, well I pushed the start button ;D ;D

Got my first ever pair of glasses last year
Paid over £250 for some Ray bans with lenses, for a second pair I picked up the same ray ban frames off ebay for £45 and got the same lenses put in by direct sight online for another £40 a massive saving on the £250 the optician charged me.
I also got a pair of prescription sunglasses from them and the frames were almost identical to the ray ban ones all for around £30

Same as Jackstee for me, great service but poor quality frames & lenses.

I am still using one pair of frames that I bought in 2008 from Alice's or something like that opposite the small Migros in town. The only thing that has changed is the lenses only because they needed changing.
I also had a pair of sunglasses bought at the same time that I had for years before I lost them in Erasta.
I paid quite a bit for the frames I remember but worth it when you consider how long I have had them.
Now I have a pair of fake designer sunglasses I paid quite a bit for in Olu (250 TL) but less than what I paid for the ones above and I have had these about three or four years.
And I have a pair of cheap 50TL bendy framed glasses for reading in bed and had these a few years too, bought from a shop opposite the school past the mosque in Fethiye.
They tend to keep these cheap ones in little cupboards with lots of drawers so you have to ask otherwise all you will see is the expensive frames.
