Rumble in the Jungle
« on: October 31, 2014, 11:37:34 AM »
It is 40 years since the astonishing fight between Ali and Norton. BBC Radio 5 last night the story was retold with round-by-round commentary and scoring by Carl Froch, David Hayes and Ricky Hatton. It was a great radio experience reliving the "greatest fight of all time". An excellent programme. It is not available for download via BBC iPayer yet but perhaps it will be shortly. If so then clearly I recommend it to you.

The fight was a very strange occasion in some ways, with the venue, the country, the time of the fight,
the delays and the pre fight hype.
But the fight itself showed what a truly great sportsman Ali was, and still is, and I think he deserves to
be regarded as a Legend.
It's a great pity that he is not in a condition to celebrate the 40th Anniversary.
What a great human being.

A film Ken Norton did NOT appear in was Rumble in the Jungle.

The part of the fall guy was played by George Foreman.

I'm surprised this thread has got this far without somebody correcting my silly mistake before now. I'd like to pretend it was a deliberate mistake or just a wind-up but, I admit, it wasn't. Sorry.
