Here is a copy of a press release about the Burns Night Supper.

Burns Night is being celebrated with a traditional supper in Calis on Friday 28 January and tickets are now on sale.

The atmospheric evening which is being held in the cosy Harman hotel in central Calis, will feature live bagpipe music, Scottish country dancing and a tasty 3 course meal.

Burns Night immortalises Scotland's most famous poet Robbie Burns and is celebrated by Scotsman all over the world on or around January 25.

Guests will receive a welcome drink before sitting down to enjoy a delicious meal of lentil soup, Haggis, "Neeps and Tatties" or traditional Scottish "stovies" or vegetarian casserole followed by  a choice of  cheesecake, tiramisu or apple pie with cream or ice-cream. As haggis will be limited it will be on a "first booked" basis.

The formal ceremony of piping in the haggis and the dramatic "address to the haggis" will be followed by short toasts before guests are invited to take the floor to learn traditional Scottish country dancing led by dance teachers Sine and Colin Rous. The evening will finish with less traditional disco music.

This is the  fourth  Burns Night Supper organised by the Calis Children's Charity (formerly the Calis Carnival  fundraising committee) and it has been a sell out every year. The committee intend this to be a memorable, fun evening and although all due reverence will be paid to the traditional ceremony, toasts will be kept short to provide more time for dancing.

Tickets cost 27 TL, the same price as last year, and numbers are strictly limited to 80. Please ring 0536 3739520 to book early and avoid disappointment.  5 TL of the ticket price will go towards the children's  charity, helping fund children's projects in the local area.

Regretably we have had to take the decision to cancel the Burns Nights Supper.

For this event,we have to sign a contract and pay a deposit to the hotel guaranteeing a certain number of bookings. Unfortunately, at the time that we were due to sign the contract we had not sold enough tickets. The Children's Charity Committee are not prepared to risk the children's money raised from previous events on an event that may suffer a financial loss, should we not meet the numbers required,as that would defeat the whole object of our fundraising.

Since we took this decision, we have received a  number of telephone calls from people asking to buy tickets but I am afraid it is too late and all ticket money received has been refunded.

It is a real shame, as the event has been a sell out every year and there are quite a few disappointed people.

Please, please in future if you are intending to go to, or are thinking about going to, any of our events, please make sure you book and pay for tickets early to avoid any cancellation and subsequent disappointment.  Thanks  :)
