Title: Renting a Villa with dirty pool, has made us all I'll
Post by: Jodiyacht on July 16, 2015, 13:57:37 PM
Help! My husband & our 2 teenage boys are checked in at Villa Mare, in Calis Beach, this is our 3rd day- we had a week previous at Dalyan & enjoyed the pool most days at the appartment but I thought it would be nice to move to Calis Beach for our second week , to Villa Mare & it's large, magnificent looking swimming pool. We arrived Tuesday afternoon, hot & ready to spend time in the pool- we don't like the beach! We noticed it was a funny murky colour but we got in.
Yesterday was hot & we spent most of our day in the pool but noticed it was even more murkier, and a strange colour. A groundsman was running backwards & forwards, checking the pool, which was reassuring but last night, we were all violently sick, with diarrhoea, unable to do anything
My husband now has terrible sores on his legs & very unwell & the pool this morning & this afternoon is a brown/ green murky colour with an obvious "bloom" on the surface.
What are our rights? We booked on the strength of the pool & the use we would enjoy from it.
We are here for another 5 days & wish we could check out & book elsewhere.
I have paid a deposit but am not happy to pay the rest & would rather pay to stay at another villa/ appartment, please give us some advise, regards, a worried Mum & wife

You need to talk to the people you have rented from, have you complained?

Can you save some of the pool water in a jar / bottle to get it tested to see what is in it that is making you all I'll??

Why would you even contemplate getting in a pool that's obviously dirty ?

In the reviews there is someone called Caroline saying almost the same about the pool but they stayed in May and went on to Dalyan instead.

Your rights are to expect to get what you have paid for. If you booked direct then you need to contact the owner. Failing that, you need to speak with whom you booked through. Take plenty of photos as proof of anything you are not pleased with and get your hubby to a doctor sooner than later.

If that's the one then as Bluewise reports, someone left this comment "The swimming pool was absolutely filthy with cockroaches and flies and a thick film of dirt on the entire surface of the pool. The water looked stagnant and cloudy." They were not very complimentary about the villa either so perhaps some reasearch would have steered you away from this one.

A friend of mine stayed there recently. She didn't have any problem with the pool, she said the villa is beautiful, but she had to wash the crockery and cutlery and said it was all a bit grubby.

Firstly I agree with Toky urgent you seek medical advice.
From the pictures it looks like a communal pool so there must be a maintenance company who are responsible for the up keep and safety of the pool and if so there should be contact details displayed nearby . It may be worth noting any information available for future reference incase the owner of the villa tries passing the buck ...just a thought

Why would you do this?? Surely in just about every advert for villas or hotels, they show wonderful clear pools, so why would you or any of your family voluntarily enter a pool which was, as you described, -"murky"!, or even slightly so??

Not only that but, as you said, you all went in again, more than once!!

Now you come to this forum complaining when you should have used your common sense when looking at the state of the pool. Perhaps you and your husband and family should have thought about what the implications of swimming in dirty water would be . Seemingly not.

I am not as trusting as most ,so I may be a bit cautions here but, it looks to me like this could be a "Compo" claim on its way to a villa owner!!!

I certainly would not pay the rest.
I think if it were me I would contact the owner and bail out to a hotel or find another villa for the rest of my stay.

You were a bit harsh on a new member TC, don't you think?

Yes it was, TC please try a little harder to find a grain of compassion in your contributions - they have all been pretty confrontational lately.

I'm surprised you are there and haven't paid the balance yet. I would never have let someone stay if I hadn't received the full rental. But it does give you a stronger hand. I also agree you do need to prove it was this pool that caused it - it may be possible the last one did and it took a while? Even if not, it could have been a number of things - the pool may sound favourite but I do think you need to be sure of that.

Good luck, hope the family perk up soon.

The fact that you appear to think you haven't posted, may explain why they were so nasty.

I'm probably over the top but from experience, I wouldnt get into a pool or allow my kids in even once if it's slightly cloudy, however that being said you were probably not the only ones at this time of year with access to that pool so if a few of you are affected you might have a reasonable complaint and must contact the owners. Otherwise as said previously it could have been anything.

It's a shame that this part of the holiday is being spoiled and I am sorry you have all been ill.

Surely the first thing to do is to contact the owner who may believe that the maintenance company he will almost certainly be employing is doing whatever is necessary to keep the pool clean, as they are paid to do.

It won't take much to put the pool right with the right administration of chemicals and he should be given the chance to kick butt and make sure it is put right, if it hasn't already been sorted out, which I hope it has and that you are all ok.

You don't know, I don't know and niether does TC.

On the whole I find the members of CBF to be a genuine and honest group of people who are willing to offer help and advice when asked to do so. Making wild accusations on someone's first post was not what I expected from a long standing member of our community.
