Private groups/forums serve a purpose - in the cases of things like Adult Jokes or Kid's Forum it is an obvious reason - and members can only access them if they request to, and meet the criteria (like for Adult jokes you must be over 18 and a little bit sad
). The other main area that private forums are useful is the complex specific ones - where owners can discuss issues in private - the things they don't want renters to read perhaps.
On our new forum private forums are hidden by default - it isn't a secret society mentality, you can see the names of them all in your profile - and request to join. This is an easy 3 step process, you only need to do once.
Step 1: Select Profile (menu bar above) then from the drop down menu click "Summary"
Step 2: Click "Modify Profile" then down to "Group membership"
Step 3: Request access to the groups that interest you.
That's it!
Please - one thing - do not request to join any of the complex owner's forums if you aren't an owner - refusal often offends. The Kid's sections are for kids only. No under 18s in the Adult Jokes etc, you know the sort of thing
