My laptop has developed a flaw on the screen. A thin white line has appeared and remained over the last two/three weeks. It is a couple inches from the bottom of the screen and begins about half way across. It starts very thin and faint and then progressively gets stronger as comes to the right hand edge. Any chance of curing this or is it permanent damage?

It sounds like pressure damage to the screen which destroys some of the pixel area, if it is then I'm afraid you need a replacement screen
-
Or possibly a new ribbon cable which connects the screen to the motherboard, very prone to damage as they are incredibly flimsy!

As Rimms says this sounds like pressure damage. If you need to change screens its not normally that expensive. With three boys in late teens / early 20's I have had to do a few replacements and never paid more than £90 from my local computer shop.

Thanks for these comments.

Or it may be cheaper to pick up a second hand monitor with no flaws on the screen.
Local sales notice boards or free newspaper ads.

I did nothing about the line except to try ignore it. Now I find it has gone away - possibly in a sulk.

And now it has come back again. Pah!
