Title: "Scam" phone call
Post by: Highlander on April 06, 2018, 21:06:30 PM
I took a phone call yesterday morning and again today from someone purporting to be from my Banks’ Fraud unit.

Assuming these to be scam calls I hung up on both occasions before making a selection from the menu suggest.

In the afternoon I popped into my local branch (fortunately we still have one) to report said scam calls only to find out that the calls were in fact legitimate.

Two thoughts…….

1. How do you distinguish between a scam call and a legitimate one, and

2. It’s good to know that my bank is looking after my £ 2.5.

PS I don’t need a new “free” boiler or loft and/or cavity wall insulation, I haven’t been in a road accident lately and I know all about PPI claims.

If we get ANY calls purporting to be from banks, BT, utilities etc we tell them to write to us.

Before this incident I would have agreed especially from a bank.

But in this case it was a genuine call from our bank.

By "write" I assume you would include email.

But that may take time and if it wasn't a hoax call, my/your account might be compromised in the meantime.

No, I don't include emails H.

There's usually FA in our accounts anyway.  ;)
