Here's a picture showing the extent of the flooding in the Kaya Valley.

Laffa,
It's always green between September and May.

:)It looks lovely, you are so lucky. ;)

the flooding looks bad hope it recedes soon, good photo though
-
were there any crops in the fields this time of year ? Hope they were all 'safely gathered in' :(
-
The harvest was complete. Most fields at this time of year are used for grazing.

Am I wrong in thinking that last year the rain was in short supply?
-
There was plenty of rain in the Fethiye last year, but it was spread over a longer period. It seems we've had a couple of month's rain in a week.
Turkey on the whole had a shortage of rain, but Fethiye's was about average. The problem is that most of it flowed straight out into the bay. The farmers in the area rely heavily on water from higher ground either directly irrigating their crops, or percolating into artesian wells, and that's where they encountered a problem.
Last year we had standing water 14 inches deep in our woods for about 2 months. This year, the depth of standing water in the same area is about 26 inches.
No doubt the Turkish Met Office will give us some comparison figures soon.
