We have just returned from another great stay at our villa in Ovacik.

As always we are keen to try restaurants that we have not tried before, and stumbled across Keyfi Mangal in Kaya.

Initially we were impressed, but ultimately saddened at the blatant rip-off that we experienced.

Beware!

We liked the style and surroundings which were not unlike Cinbal.  We were asked "Mezes?",  "Oven Lamb?" - Yes please,  we said.  No sign of a menu, but hey, this was not your usual tourist type restaurant.  We also said we would like a bottle of water, and enquired "Wine?" (we were not sure if they would have wine).  Anyway along came a bottle of wine, with the food, and was duly poured.

We did comment to each other that we had not seen a menu or any prices, but they spoke very little English, the other people there were Turkish and we trusted them.

The food was great, the wine was very nice, but when we got the bill we found that the wine was 65YTL for the bottle.  Now that is pretty expensive for Turkey and we were not given any choice of wine.  We complained that they should not have given us a bottle that expensive without asking, or giving a choice.  A Turkish couple that overheard and understood were absolutely aghast.

They simply took advantage, and that in my book is a rip-off.  As a result we will not go back, and we will warn others to stay away.  It was a silly trick that will cost them trust, and cost them business.

Some of you may criticise us for being "naive" and not asking to see a price list, but we all know what lovely, honest, trustworthy people most Turks are, and we really did not expect to be taken advantage of in that way.

At the end of the day it probably cost us around £10 or £12 pounds more than we had expected, but to be taken advantage of like that leaves a nasty taste, and makes us a little less trusting of the next restaurant we go to.

A great shame as it could have been excellent ....... BUT ...

Yes it is the old, old story - get what you can today.  Why oh why can they not see that if they rip somebody off they will get no further business from them.  From the tone of your post you seemed to be quite happy with the place and would probably have gone back and also recommended it to others.
