Here I sit on my veranda sipping a refreshing glass of delicious Pimms, minding my own business, and bloody hell more late night music coming from the centre! Yet another wedding - surely not? Have the Turks got nothing better to do than get married? This summer are they going for the Olympic wedding record? Could they not have a nice, quiet ceremony and if they must make music could they not let rip in the afternoon - and preferably about 20 miles from Uzumlu!
I do wonder if we Brits asked the authorities here to hold a late night party, with loud music, what the response would be?!
-
Maybe they can change all their traditions to suit Brits like you Chris.
-
You ARE joking Chris, -aren't you???
I think its lovely. I will miss it when it all stops. Went to one last week, a 2 day affair and thoroughly enjoyed it.
-
Scunner, that's a great idea! Cricket on the green, red busses to replace dolmuses, a decent pint of bitter, puddings, mandatory English speakers in all shops, crap football teams, Christmas, steam trains -that'll do for a start!
-
I do get the joke, I just wonder if our Turkish members will find it funny - or just confirm their suspicions about some ex-pats in Turkey.
-
Scunner, what makes you think I'm joking?!I'm sure many Turks living in uk or wherever miss many things about their homeland - there's nothing funny or unusual about that. I wonder what suspicions Turks have about some of us Brits?
Scunner, on a different matter I bet many on here, like me, wonder how it is you respond so quickly to comments? Are you, by chance, wired up permanently to your computer, so even when asleep, you are somehow immediately awoken for that instant response! I just might try you out some time with a 4am post to see how quickly you reply!!!!

Will not seem the same when the singing every night stops serenading us to sleep but I guess we can then look forward to the early morning wake up call at 3.30am of the drummer during Sept.:D:D
Apparently it is considered bad luck to get married during Ramadan hence this months frenzy of weddings.

In one of them moods again Chris !!!!!only another half hour and you can get your head down ready for a hard days sunbathing . Regards Calvin
-
I think the noise from the weekend weddings is quite tuneful. Just wait till the drummer starts every morning in September for Ramazan at approx 0330 hours!!!!.
WW
-
No, no, no WW, 'weekend weddings' don't exist here. We have wall to wall weddings, LOL. I certainly don't remember this many last y ear. Love it though. AND I am looking forward to the Ramadan drummer too.

Why not just move back to the UK?
-
forgive me for being so outspoken, being a new member and all that, but i have to say stoop i agree with you, after all surley most of us come to turkey to enjoy their culture, those of us who don't appreciate where we are perhaps should get back on a plane to rainy england.
-
Shhhhhh. Stop arguing, stop it please. Scunner will notice and slap our wrists. Please just smile :-\
-
It's most peculiar! All the people I have know and meet in Uzumlu love it here! But most on the forum appear to hate it .... perhaps they ought to get out more and get away from their computers?? They are just SOOO miserable! Baah humbug to weddings, restaurants, people they meet??? ....... seems to be mostly men ..... GRUMPY OLD MEN??? Could we possibly fill a plane load??
-
There are more weddings than normal at the moment because there won't be any in September during the month of Ramadan. Also the schools are are popular venue for very large weddings and usually coincide with school holidays. There were several here in Fethiye on Saturday.....personally we love to watch and listen. :)
-
Chris, if you like all things british, EASY move back to the UK, know where i would rather be, try joining in the wedding, the turkish people wont mind.
-
im coming out there in september, i dont like the thought of being woke up by a drummer at 03:30 everyday of my hols.
perhaps he has got a van and can take me to the supermarket when he has finished drumming?
-
Better go to Spain then :)
-
Perhaps he can drum up custom for the supermarket,!!!!!!soon get used to it ,blends in nicely with the cockrels ,dogs and goats ,enjoy it , it is better than drunken yobs roaming the streets when the clubs kick out in the Uk. you could always stay up and go to bed when he,s done Regards Calvin
-
Good point Calvin. When I was back in the UK recently it all came back to me: the boy racers and the sound of smashing bottles, not to mention the front garden being used as a toilet. Turkey here in Uzumlu is so much more 'real life'.
And don't lets get into a debate as to what 'real life' means. I think most people would understand what I am getting at.
-
Chris.tippett where abouts in Uzumlu do you live?
I'll make sure when i get married there we'll be nice and loud for you?
Any song requests?

Hes a legend!
-
Tors, you come up to Uzumlu, not down :)
-
darn it not having english road signs ;)
-
Dear Tors, thanks for giving me the opportunity to request some songs at your wedding. Here are 1 or 2 suggestions and please play them at max volume!
Celebration Day - Led Zepplin
We gotta live together - Jimi Hendrix
Heart of Gold - Neil Young
Join Together - The Who
That'll do for starters and have a good day!
-
Sorry Chris I left my gramophone in the uk...

I'de rather hear some noisy Turkish weddings,as described by someone,
than listen to some of the tourists with their pool parties at 3 in the morning.Yes,I know they come across to have a good time, but by the same token have some regard for their Turkish neighbours,it is their country you know, its not some British colony.Stick to your Pimm's pal,do'nt worry about Turkish weddings, chill out.
