Title: Pork products at Kipa
Post by: Liz 101 on July 26, 2012, 12:43:07 PM
I've noticed today that Kipa now have 2 shelves of the meat section dedicated to pork products. At the mom it is only bacon, parma ham & salamis, none of which are cheap. The bacon I think is from Poland, judging by the lettering on the pack & is IRO 30tl for 500g.

Let's see how long it lasts

Calm down Gordon!  I wasn't having a 'Go' at your offer Gordon! & I wasn't offering to take any over!

I was teasing at the price of Bacon here as opposed to the price of it in Turkey, much the same as people like to tease people about the difference in the sun/weather, price & flavour of tomatoes etc, etc..................

We have room in our luggage for another 8 kilos of weight, & thought, after reading the post by Liz 101, that it would be nice to use it to let some Ex-pats have some absolutely lovely bacon for a change, to be perfectly honest if no-one wants to take advantage of my offer, I will let a restaurant/cafe have it.   ;) :P

For us ex-pats, compared with price we have to pay here, this a bargain & in any event, I haven't found smoked bacon anywhere, so Gordon & Loz's kind offer is more than acceptable to me (& my neighbours, who are sharing it) :P

We always take bacon out with us but I read on Trip Advisor that someone was fined 3000TL for carrying bacon - poppycock & rumour? I always thought if it was a problem it would just be confiscated?

Just done a shop at the Pork Shop, in-between Migros and Chalis and he is just been stocking up.

Got everything now and both smoked and unsmoked bacon. For those who were asking he even has some of those coffee shots.

Scottish square sausage has gone up to 30 lira but still a good deal and I got a kilo of minced pork for our sausage rolls, also at 30 lira.

All in all spent around 350 lira which included a full roast (this will split into 3 meals, 1.5 kilos of bacon which will be split into around 30 double portions (plus), 6 pork chops ( 3 meals) One bonfilly (3 meals) square sausage (7 meals)Kilo of minced pork (30 plus sausage rolls)
The price also included things like pate, instant noodles, cheese, sauces with two jams and a can of beans free.

This means the two of us now don't have to go there again this year.

A good shop.

We have so much luggage space, just messaged cobbydalers to see if they still want Bacon as someone has dropped out, they are going to Rhodes or friends going to Rhodes or UK.

We only need to take Hold luggage because his lordship has decided to take a Saw to Turkey (please don't ask, epecially Scunner!) When we get to Cash and Carry on Saturday we will have a better idea of the price but I think it will be less than 60TL for 2 or 2.5Kg smoked bacon.

Turkish saws don't seem to cut in straight lines.
