Martin Lewis has an offer. Order wine through his link on Naked Wines and get £40.00 of a case. I ordered a case of six mixed wines for £69.00 and got it for £29.00 plus when you join you get a voucher for £40 off your next order.

Thanks for the tip Jacqui have just enjoyed a perusal through the wine lists on th e site, and discovered some other useful tips too. :)

Nae Buckie o' Lanliq then ?

These deals are not all they seem unfortunately, vastly inflated prices, and then given a voucher to bring them down to what they are really worth. You are then hooked and have to go to the trouble of cancelling the next batch which will arrive on your doorstep several weeks later if you don't.
The best deal is to go to your local Aldi and get excellent wines at a very reasonable price.

Not true.
-
It is only true if you do not read the small print, as Jacqui pointed out you had the option to go with the deal that tied you in to further offers, or the chance to have a one-off good deal. Just be careful what you sign up for. This offer seems fool-proof if you use common sense.
-
I don't think Martin Lewis would recommend it, if it was not a good offer. He also recommended the wine. So, I have ordered 6 bottles delivered free for under £30.00. with no ties. I have not signed up for anything.
However, no one is twisting anyone's arm, if they don't want the offer that is fine. I am just letting people know, so they can read the offer and have the option to take it if they wish.

Well Jaqui, I sincerely hope you enjoy your wine. Please let us know what they were like when you have consumed them. I for one will stick to buying my wine from Aldi. This has given me an idea though for a new topic, hmmmmm.
Byetheway, since when has Martin Lewis been an expert on wine me thinks !!

Chris, first bottle of Australia Shiraz consumed this evening. Absolutely, lovely, surprisingly good, very smooth. We are pleased so far and have not signed up for anymore wines, it was a one off, however, if the next few bottles are as good as this one, will be back for more. at these prices, what is not to like?
Incidentally, as Martin Lewis is a multi-millionaire with a vast team working for him, I am sure he has a wine taster ;D ;)

Are you as blinkered to life in general as you are to your wine purchasing? No matter what anyone says, Aldi (and Lidl's) wines are price driven with the resultant consequences of such a policy. Some good wines, some decent wines and a fair proportion of distinctly mediocre wines - I know, I've tried a good number of them!
When they come into their own is when they have a limited stock promotion - Lidl recently had a five year old Madeira for a tenner, lovely stuff and a couple of cases bought. Some of the burgundies and Rhone reds on offer recently are good value, the CDP at Aldi for a tenner is nice enough - probably worth the money if you like CDP but only available at Xmas.
As you obviously like a bargain, the Toro loco tempranilla that Aldi want £3.69 for is one of the three for a tenners at Asda (or £3.33 pb if you live in chilly jockoland). Maybe this time next year you'll be telling how good Asda is...
How do you know Martin Lewis isn't a wine expert? Last time me and Keith split a bottle (a very nice Navarra Rosada) with him he seemed to know which end to drink out of!

(currently drinking a £4.99 Rioja from Sainsbo's :) )

As a wine expert (of wines under a fiver) it is best to shop around for offers in various supermarkets, you can get a good variety of wines from Asda, Tesco M&S and even the Co-op. If you are a total wine buff, then go ahead and spend £20.00 PLUS, but you get the same effect if it costs £4 OR £30.
-
And McEwan's Champion Ale (7.3%) - £1.25 at Aldi - a phenomenal tipple!!
-
4 bottles of Bitter Lemon £1.50 Tesco, thats Christmas and New Year sorted ;)

Miserable old cow... ;)

I have to agree with other posts £30 for 6 bottles [plus delivery] is I think average [about £5 per bottle]
Laithwaites offer £40 of a £79 12 bottle case = approx £3.25 per bottle.
Anyway each to their own
-
Depends on the wine, price of £3.25 per bottle against £5.00 per bottle does not equal the same quality. ;D ;)
-
Here are 2 of my current favourite reds form ( you guessed it) ALDI..
On the left a new edition, Spanish Budavar Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon. A great tasting full bodied wine and only £ 3.45 a bottle. On the right a really pleasing French Malbec, a little more expensive at £4.49 but well worth it . If you have an Aldi near you try these wines, you will not be disappointed.
Cheers everyone. Have A Very Merry Christmas.

had already found this deal whilst looking on line for a case to send to relis in scotland! Bought the £59 case and paid around £23 in total with the discount!
It works out very good for the case with discount although I wouldnt have been happy paying over £9 a bottle just to send as a pressie when I'm more than happy with some of the Aldi specials! current fave is the Toro Loco Tempranillo at £3.69, though the Argentinian Malbec and the South Australian Shiraz are both award winners and at £5.99 fabulous value!

That makes about as much sense as saying "I'd say £11,500 is about right for a car"!!!

Did you get chance to try the Toro Loco Reserve they had in stock a couple of weeks ago, absolutely gorgeous, but alas it seems all stocks have gone as I haven't been able to source another bottle since and that was a very modest £5.99. :) :)

O.K second bottle opened last night, happy with that one too.
-
Can one still purchase Blue Nun anywhere :D

Glad you are enjoying you wines Jaqui, hope you have saved some good ones for today, :D(http://)

Hi sandgrounder, Asda and Tesco sell Blue Nun wine, £5 per bottle. ;)
-
Those were the days, Blue Nun and Black Tower, with a bit of spanish plonk on the side. More refined these days, more is the pity!!! ;)
-
Ooh yes, or a bottle of Mateus Rose for the sophisticats :D
-
Yes and when the bottles were empty everyone wanted to make lampshades with them...
-
Or stylish candle holders :D
-
I can remember a night out with the girls from my office in Liverpool and the girls where all asking the waiters for the empty bottles to make lamps with.... Looking back it was so fashionable....Oh Dear, changed times now.
-
Yes but without those days we wouldn't be where we are with wines today :)
Plus, I would be delighted to have a bottle of Black Tower now and again, I think it is a fantastic wine for a change!
-
Just enjoying another bottle of Hardy's Legacy- Shiraz-Cabernet ( Tesco's £4.99 - normally £9.99) I am not fussed about a lot of red wines but really like this one. :)
-
Not a big fan of Chardonnay, but am enjoying a bottle of Wolf Blass Red Label Chardonnay Semillon £5.00 at Asda.
-
I'm a self-appointed expert on reasonably priced wines but also regularly buy pricier ones from Naked Wines. Naked Wines at least encourage and support small producers. Most of their good wines sell out quickly. Aldi must sell millions of bottles of Toro Loco, which makes you wonder about the way it is produced. Still, I have managed to drink a few cases of it anyway.
I regularly buy the Ocaso Malbec and Dominic Hentall Italian Primitivo from Naked Wines. Best to open both of those a good few hours before consumption.
Saying that, the current hot bottle at Chez Villain is Aldi's £3.99 Andara Chilean Merlot, as recommended by the M@!l on Sunday. A step up from the Toro Loco in terms of quality.
-
I just wait for the offers at Tesco. I got some excellent french red and Oz white for £4.00 a bottle (3 for £12) this weekend. With our 10% discount that makes them £3.60 per bottle :)

Re : Lamps
There was a woman selling lamps made from bottles outside the Seketur on the promenade throughout the season last year!
-
Maybe we were poorer, but we just stuck candles in the empty wine bottles.
We had to drink our wine in the dark in the meantime until we emptied a bottle of course.
