Title: An Xmas Charity offer from Aldi UK
Post by: KKOB on December 02, 2017, 14:35:11 PM
I'm 99% sure that this is genuine. It's being shown on a number of local newspaper websites and the contact name's details are definitely genuine.

It has been in The News today that The Coop are selling all of their best by date.. dried food, cans, crisps etc off for 10 pence.. I would think more of them if they also donated their food to the needy  as Morrison's, Aldi..Tesco and M and S do and have done for a long time.. Seems like a cynical gimmick to be doing at Xmas time..

    Mercury

The Coop offered the food to the food banks for free, but the food banks refused it because it was past it's "best before"

date. So the Coop said rather than the food going to Land Fill sites they would see if people wished to buy it for 10 pence

per item, giving food bank users the choice.

I'm Aldi & Lidl & Markets, the others are robdogs, but the cynic in me wonders how picky are the food banks.??

In my experience, they're not at all picky. They'll take whatever they can get hold off and will always put it to good use.

Well they refused the Coops offer of free food because of dates. Yesterday I opened a large catering tin of Heinz beans

that was 14 months past the "best before" date.I divided it into plastic tubs, ate 1 tub and put the rest in the freezer.

Perfect food. I bought 3 of those large tins for £1 off a market trader a few months ago. 18 large portions of Heinz

Baked Beans for £1.          ;)   Last Sunday I bought 24 jars of Clear Honey that had set. Put a jar in warm water for 10 mins

and it will clear and stay clear for months. I paid £ 8 for 24 jars of perfect Honey.

Most canned goods are still perfectly edible years after their best by date, as long as the can isn't "blown".
