Title: Vodafone removing Turkey as part of euro zone package
Post by: Bluwise on March 26, 2018, 12:16:21 PM
Just read in the "other place" that vodafone are removing Turkey (from May I think) as part of their europe calls package.
I'm relieved I only bought a pay as you go sim as not even had a chance to use yet!!   >:( >:(

Nothing I can find saying this. Might just be a rumour.

Just tweeted Vodafone as having Turkey as part of the package was the reason I went with them.

If they drop it from their 'Roam Free' package, then that's a significant contract change in my eyes!

I'll post any reply here.

Strangely if you use thier look up facility to check if the changes on the 10th of May affect Turkey it says it will remain free.....
My daughter uses them so I'll ask her to check this out with them today.

I just received two of the £1 a day payg sims. I was going to use them this summer but I guess Wi-Fi calls and Skype will have to suffice.

In a chat session with Vodafone support as I write. They have confirmed that Turkey is being removed from Roam-Free so I am trying to get them to answer why customers cannot cancel their contracts on the basis of a significant change in service...

From a FB post on this

I just received this text from Vodafone
Hello. From April 2018 your plan will increase by 3.6% - in line with UK inflation (measured using the Retail Price Index, March 2018 ). For example, a £30 plan will go up by £1.08 a month. This change reflects your terms and conditions and will be added from your April bill - go to www.vodafone.co.uk/rpi for info. Also, on 10 May 2018 we're adding 45 countries to Roam-further, including Albania, Bosnia and Turkey (currently in Roam-free). Based on your previous usage, these roaming changes mean you can end your agreement without penalty. We really hope you'll stay, but to discuss leaving please call 03333042612 by 6 May 2018. Rest assured, if you go abroad you'll receive a text with all the charges. Visit www.vodafone.co.uk/travelling to find out more.

Stoop, Vodafone support were clueless about the text and the penalty-free cancellation of contract - typically.

Working it out, to continue using my (and Sian's) phone as we have been will cost around £500 per year in roaming charges - about the same as one of our phone yearly contract!

Found the following on the OfCom website:

'Changes to Terms and Conditions Phone and broadband providers can change the terms of a contract so long as they provide a month's notice. However, if you believe the change will cause you material detriment, your provider should consider this and, if they agree, allow you to end the contract without penalty.'

I certainly regard £500 as 'material detriment'!

I would advise anyone affected to raise an issue with OfCom.

Noticed on another forum that someone managed cancel without issue due to it being a material change, and they also mentioned that they had been told by customer service that the change to Vodafones roaming packages relating to Turkey was as a result of a directive from Ofcom.  Can't see it myself, but here's a link to an Ofcom article relating to the changes to Vodafones roaming packages:

They will offer a free cancellation of your contract I imagine.

My daughter called into their office this morning and they confirmed that the change would be going  ahead on the 12th May. However they did offer her an option to cancel her contract....

I lodged an email complaint yesterday and had not one, but two different advisors ring me back.

Neither of them knew about the proposed changes and insisted that there were no roaming charges planned for Turkey ...

They haven't yet!! Still trying to tell me that I need to an early termination fee, even though I've received the text saying that I can cancel without penalty.

The incompetent rep asked me to screenshot the text message and email it - turns out the email address he gave doesn't accept pictures!!

Vodafone really have taken incompetence to a new level!!

I just had a text from Vodafone today re the removing turkey from the euro zone package I have been waiting for this text for 9 days  I rang the number given waited 2 min then the advisor came on the phone  from UK , wow most impressed, after going through all options I have terminated my contract which has 12 months left free of charge, and I keep my expensive phone another wow free of charge from 5 th may.
I have to phone the UK number on 1 st may for a pak code so I can join another provider  Total time taken 4 mins hassell free another wow.

Next I contacted my home phone / broadband provider PLUSNET  explained the situation  that I wanted a  mates rates which give me more useage than I am on, just have to do a online contact on 1 st may with my pak code wait 24 hrs and I am up and running this took 3 mins on my mobile to sort this out great service.
the upshot is along  with the new increase Vodafone have put on this month  I will be Quids in  wow,  there, s me a OAP thinking it would be hard to get out of Vodafone how wrong I was,  my  existing charge with Vodafone per month £ 25 plus extra costs whilst in turkey new charge £ 9 per month , plus as existing account holder with plusnet Turkey will so they confirmed by email that no extra charges whilst I am there,

Well done Ron, but the first thing that strikes me is that PlusNet are now owned by BT and they use BT as their mobile carrier.

The BT "Roam like at Home" service, which is how PlusNet describe theirs, doesn't include Turkey.  Don't think it ever has.

Don't lose that email, you might need it when you get the £300 bill for a fortnight in Turkey!

Hearing reports from the Vodafone Twitter feed, plus an update on the petition site that Vodafone have reversed their decision and are keeping Turkey in Roam-Free.

Keeping a close eye out for official word!!

My daughter has just phoned to get out of her contract, and been told that they are reintroducing Turkey due to the number of complaints. If you haven’t already phoned them might be worth doing it, the more the better.

However we all know some people like to mess with other people's heads so my guess is this might be one of those times. Nothing official from Vodafone yet so I would be careful after 10 May unless you have written confirmation of free roaming.

I spoke to them as well today over a different issue. The first person I spoke to didn’t know about the change but spoke to a manager who confirmed it. I was then put through to a different dept, who again knew nothing about the change. Talk about not knowing your ar5e from your elbow.

Looks like Vodafone in-house communication is as joined up as an unmade Airfix model....

Looks like they have reversed it! If you check the new 'Roaming Further' PDF from 10/05/18 you will see that Turkey is no longer one of those destinations.

http://www.vodafone.co.uk/cs/groups/public/documents/webcontent/vfcon079683.pdf

Re: Roaming
To clarify:
We've decided to keep Turkey within our Roam-free proposition - our customers will continue to be able to use their allowance of data, minutes and texts whilst in Turkey at no additional charge.

This means that rather than moving to Roam-further on 10 May, Turkey will now remain as part of our Roam-free proposition with immediate effect!

You're able to view further information on our roaming here.

Well Vodafone have made a right pig's ear of all of this with their poorly informed staff and lack of clarity.
You would expect a big announcement after all the questions and moans etc.
How can they get it so wrong??

Yes, had a text confirming Vodafone are keeping Turkey as roam-free country.

And no, the last advisor I spoke to this morning (they rang me about my complaint) didn't know anything about the change of plans.

i think it's fair to say it is now official. The roaming document on their website has been changed so only Albania and Bosnia Herzegovina are to only two countries listed as coming out of Roam-Free.

Shame they released so many people early from their Vodafone contracts because of the change.

Hopefully those people haven’t signed up for lengthy contracts elsewhere, as they’ll be wanting to be back on Vodafone now. What a mess.

Think they eventually realised just how much business they would lose with people cancelling contracts. At the last count there were 1000 signatures on the petition so just goes to show people power does work sometimes.

It actually did me a favour Keith, I went down from £38pcm to £18pcm & they allowed me to keep my brand new £800 smart phone, for once I'm quite pleased with Vodafone  :)
