Look at the size of the Video player!!  No wonder they used to sell cabinets to stand them on!!  :D

I remember taking voluntary redundancy from my job when I was 21 (had another job to go to, and needed the payout, as we'd just got married!).  It was 27 years ago, and we paid £1000 for a normal 20" tele and a video player!!  You'd get them both now for about £200 (well, obviously a dvd player instead)!!!   :)

I remember the first video rental shop opening in our town, it was £60 just to be a member! That was serious money indeed back then. After that you had to pay for the films of course. They were all crap, old movies that you can see on cable and satellite one after the other for nothing these days. All the big movies in the cinema took YEARS to come to video.

So, for your £60 and another fiver you could have a fabulous night in watching an old western. And maybe your neighbours couldn't :D

We got the latest Sony betamax with remote control!!!! cost about £500 the remote was on a length of wire that plugged into the front of the player, and as Peter Kay said nobody would nick it you needed 4 men to carry it

compare the prices of 20-30 years ago to what it costs for anything today, then compare the wages from then to what they are today. makes me laugh when people say how expensive things are.
when we married we had a second-hand bedroom suite, tv, kitchen table & 2 chairs, cooker, and no washing machine.
today they have 42" tv's, wii"s, computers, ipods, etc., etc., etc., and think they're hard done by!!!!

:D

arrian, that sounds just like us when we got married 36 years ago!  I don't think we had anything new, other than the wedding presents we'd had bought.  All our money went on the deposit for the house.

Oh happy days!!   ;)
