A spin off from another topic, where I ended up banging on about the vast overuse of the word "brilliant" to describe goals, passes, you name it - but brilliant happens rarely in football and in sport.

What piece of real sporting genius would you class as brilliant?

To start, on this poignant day, I will propose Gianfranco Zola's near post flick for Chelsea v Norwich. With apologies to members in Turkey: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2ywVLaJtNw

Now *that* was brilliant. :D

I suggest Di matteo 43 second goal in the 1997 FA cup final against Middelsborough. Not Brilliant bacause of the class of the goal, he had loads of time with the ball, although he did hoof it in from some distance, it was the excitement of the event that made it brilliant. Amazing

Without doubt Gareth Edwards 1973 for the Barbarians against the awesome All Blacks. Started with a piece of individual brilliance involving  fantastic contributions from almost half the team and finished with a flourish by a great rugby player
