A Poem for Today
« on: April 14, 2012, 01:50:36 AM »
The race is on down Wembley Way
What colour will seize the day?
Hopefully Red, but it could be Blue
We all love our club, this is true!

Friends have a friend on the opposite side
Even husbands have rivalry with their wives.
Brother and sisters, their family too
Some are Red and some are Blue

See Liverpool is one, doesn't matter what side
We'll stand as one, this can't be denied.
This will be shown across the land
as Red & Blue stand hand in hand.

As nearly 23 years to the very day
96 fans had their lives took away.
Watching the team that they did love
they'll shine down on Wembley from up above

Make of this what you may. you Scum
Yes, I'm talking to you...The Sun!
We are nothing like the stereotype
that you wrote in all your hype

At the end of the day, in every house
People will see the true meaning of Scouse!
Today is a day for Merseyside
Red or Blue for the Final...true Merseypride!!!   :)

Lovely words - have family and friends who support both teams so some will now be happy and some sad!

A Poem for Today

Great poem - especially given the date tomorrow.  Really nice reflection.

My favourite Hillsborough poem is this one:

For the Hillsborough Lost

On Hillsborough's field this day they fell
Ninety six life extinguished in this shackled hell
Young and old, it did not matter
Families dreams this tragedy did shatter
Crushed against barriers of steel
For them those bells mourn and peal
Football lost its life that day
On this day by the thousands they pray
Mourning the loss twenty years on
The memories so horrific, will never be gone
A carpet of flowers on this field they lay
In total remembrance of this day
Still the mothers of the lost despondently cry
Asking why, getting no real reply
Barriers now rejected
Safety no more to be neglected
Liverpool will never forget
One football match, filled with regret

* You will never walk alone*
