« on: February 18, 2015, 12:18:25 PM »
On my next visit to Calis in March I plan to return back to the UK via Istanbul and hope to spend a few days there. Can anybody suggest a good hotel and location please.

Thanks

We really like the Pera Palace if you like history and shabby chic.

It was the hotel that the Orient Express guests sayed in on their arrival at the end of the train line. It doesn't feel like it has changed much. It is however just over the Bosphorus from the main city sights. About a five or ten minute pretty walk over the bridge, but very easy to find and get to. Some nice local restaurants and bars in that area too.

On second thoughts just checked it out. It has gone ever so posh (expensive)! It was not refurbed when we stayed. Obviously! It is 25% cheaper if you book on bookings dot com though rather than direct.

The 1st time we went to Istanbul we stayed near the major sights in the Old part of the city (Pierre Loti Hotel) just up the road from the Blue Mosque. The 2nd time we stayed near the Galata Tower(Peninsula Galata Hotel ).Both hotels were nice and good value and both are near to tram routes.  :)

We stayed at the Sirkeci Mansion.  If you book three days or more they give you 10% off, a free dinner in one of their two restaurants and free pick up at the Airport.   They also have more Hotels in Istanbul to suit all price ranges.
We could not fault this Hotel, they have a pool in the basement and a sauna.  They also have a roof top bar and restaurant with sun loungers.  They are next to the park near the Topkapi Palace and have lovely views right down to the water and the ships.  They also offer free afternoon tea if you are around at 4.00pm.
