Tough Times ahead for Turkish Tourism - Asia Times
« on: February 25, 2016, 10:07:28 AM »
Set out below is a link to an excellent article in the Asia Times, which sets out all aspects of the tough times Turkey is, and will, expect to face in its vital tourist industry.  The article contains some very interesting economic figures which clearly demonstrate the problems for tourist areas, jobs, businesses and the wider Turkish economy.  It does not make a for a good read at all.

We all know that Reg and his fawning government/public sector place-men can be delusional at the best of times about what is, and is likely to happen, but if they really believe that there will be a million USA visitors, plus 1/4 million South American all spending more than the Russian (and German) tourist they replace, plus of course all the new Middle Eastern tourists.  Then the lunatics really have taken over the asylum here in Regland.

Its a good article.  One significant paragraph is:

Statements by Russia’s Ambassador in Ankara, Andrei Karlov, have certainly a grain of truth to them: “It will be difficult for most Turkish companies to return to the Russian market, and perhaps they will never manage to do so, because their place is already taken by companies from Egypt, Israel, Azerbaijan and Iran. There are many more foreign companies willing to fill the void. Even if the relations recover, it will be difficult for Turkey to come back.”

What Karlov says is true not just for the Russian market, but the UK and the rest of Europe - we've already seen it with TC et al stating that bookings for Spain, Greece etc are well up due to reluctance of folks to book in Turkey.  It'll be a hard job to tempt many of the folks back to Turkey next year.

Wouldn't it be good, just for once, to see a positive article relating to Turkey?

It really would, but it won't happen while the main man is ensconced in his White Elephant. His survival will over ride any

other priorities. Tragic for the country.   :( :(
