HAYED (Formerly Animal Aid)
« on: April 01, 2018, 12:31:27 PM »
It has been brought to our attention that AA can function far more efficiently as a registered charity. We recognise the importance of working together with our local communities and are therefore very excited to announce that we have joined forces with Fethiye Hayvan Dostlari and Animal Care Uzumlu to create a new registered charity called HAYED. This will enable our groups to work together, combining our resources, manpower and expertise to benefit the local animals of Fethiye and surrounding areas. We are now able to raise funds across all of Turkey and abroad on a much larger scale, and with the full support of our Mayor and local authorities; we will finally be able to tackle much larger projects that the Fethiye animals are so desperately in need of.
The amalgamation will be a gradual process and done with great care so as not to affect the day to day needs of our animals.

Hi Bernie, haven't got a definitive answer to that yet as there is a meeting scheduled pretty soon to discuss the benefits of AA Ovacik coming under the HAYED umbrella. One of our key members is away at present and the meeting will take place upon their return.

Best idea of 2018 !!! Animals, volunteers, vets, children, adults and basically anyone who is involved or is ignorant of animal welfare, will benefit. Its a no brainer!!

I really do hope so BusyBee...education is the key factor but it will take time to filter through. In the meantime we will continue to try and raise sufficient funds to provide for the well-being of our street animals and wildlife. Our volunteers are amazing, few in number but prepared to respond if humanly possible.
It's also true that we would find it difficult to function without the generosity of holiday-makers to this region who, year upon year, support our various events and make substantial contributions to enable the work to continue. Huge thanks.
Now that the season is almost upon us I will endeavour to update everyone on upcoming events.

I'm curious, what safeguards do you have in place to ensure that funds donated by folks to help animals in the Fethiye/Calis area wont be redirected (best word I can come up with) to "projects" elsewhere or "projects" that don't directly benefit the street animals in the Fethiye/Calis area?

I've seen what happens in Turkey when small ex pat driven and focused charitable organisations get into partnership with established local charities, both personally in Istanbul and anecdotally in the Fethiye area.  It does make me wonder if the supposed benefits of amalgamation do actually outweigh the disadvantages of being independent, and possibly the ability to be more transparent to those who donate funds/goods.

Do the animal charities have to pay their money into the Fetav bank the same as the children's charities.?  I know that it used to be that The ex.pat charities were not allowed their own bank account.. The 3 C's had Liz101 our very able accountant keeping her eye on it..

Have passed comments on to the committee and expect to have a definitive reply, hopefully addressing all your concerns, very shortly.

Hayed now has a registered charity number in accordance with Turkish law. We also have our own bank account with two treasurers and an accountant to keep control of any monies coming in and going out. There is a meeting this Thursday for all volunteers of both AA and FHD.That means street/pod feeders, shop staff, drivers,TNR volunteers, coffee morning volunteers, table top volunteers, food distributors, etc (hope ı havent missed anyone out)This meeting is at 2pm at the charity building along from the boat co-op in Çalış.Turn left before the bridge and it is behind the small building in front of the basketball court. This meeting is to introduce everyone to the new directors of the charity and explain the new way of working in accordance with the laws of Turkey regarding animal charities. It is also a chance for our volunteers to ask questions and voice any anxieties they may have. These will be treated with the utmost respect.Change is often difficult but with your support we aim to work forward to offer more help to the street animals in Fethiye and Çalış.
