Title: Market Closures
Post by: KKOB on July 05, 2015, 17:36:52 PM
There's a thread running on the Turkish Living Forum about an announcement by the Municipality Offices that they intend to close all Markets by 1st November. This is apparently to encourage traders to takeover vacant shops and other premises which will enable the local councils to collect more rent and taxes.

Anyone else heard about this ?

There is or was a move to have all street markets covered , like the market at Çatalarık on the Antalya road. I know that many of the street markets in Antalya have been moved to covered areas. Perhaps it is this that is causing confusion.

I think Marmaris and Icmeler only have food items for sale at their markets now, no non food goods.

Think the tourists love the markets and it would harm the tourist trade if they were taken away.
It would suit us find if they were just food.

It has nothing to do with who owns the shops, nor any influence they may have on council or mayor. Or the fact that many of these "farmers" are in a very small way of business and have probably never paid tax. Haha
