Title: cheap bars in Ovacik please
Post by: sue mac on June 12, 2008, 19:50:49 PM
When in Ovacik last week, we decided to try a bar on the Ovacik Road (Relax bar) and were amazed at how much cheaper the drinks (cocktails) were as opposed to down in Hisaronu or Olu Deniz. In Olu you can pay up to 15 lira for a cocktail, whereby at the relax bar we were paying 5 lira (and that included sparkler, fruit and umberellas!!) and they were GOOD. We have decided now to try and frequent these little bars a bit more in future and wondered if there are any recommendations for any good cheap bars in the area? (BESIDES Relax bar, before you say it!!)
We are out for a month in 6 weeks time, and need to try and make our money last a bit longer (well either that or dont go out!

My fault, Sue edited her post and it locked - I can return it and unlock it but I can't see where it came from. I put it back into Bars & Restaurants. No problem, it's a good Calis question too.

There are bars close to the centre of Hisaronu who do drinks at these prices too...it's just a case of looking around.

My parents came over to Ovacik for a month and thought the Elif restaurant on the main ovacik road was excellent. Reasonably priced and good quality food.

Ha Ha!! Dont know about the Efes Jack, you would need to ask Marily and Graham that one, as they came in later and Maz was drinking Efes.  We were on cocktails all night, and mighty fine they were too for 5 lira!! Here is our bill: 18 cocktails in all, two pides brought by JJ from the Pasa Sofresi down the road when we got a bit peckish, and a taxi back up. Total cost, 120 lira between three of us. Not bad for a full night with food and transfers!!!!!!!!!!!
Linda, I like the sound of that  Four Seasons, what is Turkish Saz music, and what night do they play that??

It's the traditional guitar music .... a bit like a Mandolin. Both boys can play really well, sometimes just instrumental but singing as well. It is always impromptu but they wil alwas play if you ask them to. Highly recommended  :)

If I remember correctly the Relax bar is on the left as you travel along the road to the Hisaronu roundabout and is one of the first bars you will come to and its on a corner so its quite big.
As for price of effes, again if I have the right bar there was a big blackboard on the pavement advertising Ice Cold Effes 3ytl.

Hi, Taras Bar on the main road to Hisaronu from Fethiye, not far from the petrol station is a good bar/restaurant for cocktails along with all the other beers and spirits, Ali, the owner, is always welcoming and is always willing to listen and learn from all his clientel who can be visitors, residents(expats that is) or Turkish, its a Goood atmosphere to along with good food at reasonable prices....go on give it a try...you can always slate me in here afterwards if you dont like it:D

Jack, if you come out of Oaklands and walk to the bottom of the lane, turn left onto the main road. cross over and then take your first right. Walk down to the main Ovacik road and keeping on the left as you walk towards His, you will eventually come to it. There is a blackboard sign outside saying, "last stop before M25".  Its not the most fantastic bar, but the drinks were cheap and JJ the owner is very friendly.  It was not much good for kids though, as it is open right onto the main road and I did find the music a bit loud. Hence why I am enquiring about other cheap bars in the area. I have heard good reviews about the Captains restaurant, but will keep that for a new post.

The drinks are really well priced in 4 Seasons. they have some good offers on at the moment for families ..... 50% off meals from main menu for under 14s BOGOF on kids drinks. I think they've also got an earlybird menu. Im off there tonight for the live music  8)

Saturday night is their party night with a mixture of entertainment which usually includes Saz. We're off there tonight  :) However, the boys will be happy to play the Saz any night of the week - just ask and they will be happy to oblige  8)

As normal all my best laid plans went by the wayside and I never made it to the Relax or Chill out. Does this only happen to me or do other members find that their holiday just flies by, the months you spend planning and researching before your trip doesn't really matter when you go out there and you end up just chilling out and adopt the Turkey way of life.

yes Jack, this often happens to me too! However, being out there for a month very shortly, it will be necessary for us to make the effort to find some of these cheaper bars, so if anyone  can point me in the right direction of four seasons, I would be grateful.

word of warning we was recently in turkey and we thought we would try the chill out bar. the food that they cooked for us was the worse i have ever eaten in the entire world.we did complain to the boss and all he could say was naughty chief.the drinks may be ok but the food is a big no no

I have taken quite a few of my friends to Chill Out  and the only negative remark is that the wait is very very long at times.Food has always been very good, and freshly cooked.I cannot believe that the boss would say such a thing as the boss is one of the chef,s and you never see him.I had Chill Out special a few weeks ago and I can honestly say it was one of the best meals I have ever had in  Ovacik.Had the Sea Bass tonight and that was excellent maybe the chef was being naughty the night you were in who knows.

thanx for your input. but i have been going to turkey for years. and have never really had any problems with food. but please let me assure you the reply that i got from the man in charge did happen and the food was terrible as in the king prawns were rock hard the rice was all wet like glue the veg was mushey and the slight portion of chips was rock hard so much so that you would of broke your teeth and the wait was about one and half hours. so i felt it fair to warn others oh and the other thing was four adults and three young lads cost nearly two hundred lira and the food was dire

So was this the Relax bar or the Chill Out? Or are they both the same as you have written the same review on both?

So is the Chill Out the same bar/restaurant as the Relax bar?

Either confirm this or one of the reviews will be deleted.
