Title: Scooter helmets
Post by: tetmeister on June 24, 2009, 19:52:32 PM
Got pulled over by a shirty Trakkic Jandarma today.Granted ,had just popped 2mins down rd,had a cap on and my lid under seat.He was talking to someone else, saw me,grunted"wheres ya helmet, last chance",upon which i donned it and drove off.20 other scooters must have gone past him as i sat at the junction, and he troubled not one of the un-helmeted buggers.Be aware, its indiscriminate, its rude, and it gave me the ump.Accept wrong not to be wearing one,but a bit of manners, and some same playing field rules need to be applied!

The Trafik Jandarma's attitude is that, as a Brit, you should know better!

:D ;):D

I know a few Turkish people that have been pulled over and fined for the same offence and I saw some more being pulled over yesterday, Kaya is right the Turkish people need educating about wearing helmets and the Brits should know better, why anyone would ride a scooter without one is beyond me.

Coming back from Fethiye yesterday I seen three kids on a scooter,The one in the cockpit must have been all of twelve, his two passengers were probably about the same age, wobbling all over the place, they were having a right old laugh, shudder to think of the consequences if they'ed caused an accident, crash helmets?,come on,it is Turkey.

When people are in the UK they would not dream of going out on a scooter without an helmet on, so why do it here, the roads are much worse no free NHS.
Since living here 10 months and driving a car one of my biggest frustrations is why it is acceptable to flout all the driving laws. I do not understand how any parent can carry a child on a scooter with no protection, nothing will change while you see the police riding motorbikes with caps on.

What mystifies me is how some turkish women manage to sit sideways on the seat behind the driver and don't hold on to anything !! Seen several doing their crocheting as well ! One pothole and I would go flying high :D If I am on the back of a scooter I hold on for dear life and close my eyes !

Made (I suspect) for slower speed accidents and may afford little protection in an accident on a motorised vehicle.

I saw a British woman stopped for not wearing her helmet whilst riding her scooter yesterday next to the Dolphin roundabout,
if you flout this law they will be happy to stop you! be warned.

Yes, helmets are compulsory on quads too.

It's a fixed penalty but you get a discount for prompt payment.

Pay your fine at the Ziraat Bank, NOT on the spot.

You raise an interesting point KKOB,as the majority of people who use quad bikes are tourists, what happens if the fine is not paid due to the fact the miscreant has gone home.

The car hire company I use E mailed me a copy of a parking fine I had picked up in Hisaronu one year and I arranged payment via someone in H.But usually you have to give some sort of credit card as a deposit and iv'e heard of cases where they have taken fines or damage from that card to cover it.
