I have recently moved to Mugla. I want to watch UK TV. I have looked at this forum and you discuss many options. I don't care if I have to pay for this service but have no idea how to go about doing this. Is there a simple way. I have subscribed t Digiturk but don't find it that interesting and know that it is possible to get UK TV having spoken to someone at Dalaman airport. I do not remember however the name of the provider.

We have tried other pacakges but these IMO are the best. Also make sure you have unlimited downloads and High intenet speeds to get the best screening....

I agree that this needs to have unlimited download and a good internet speed to avoid buffering on ITV i player. We download BBC programmes on their i player so don't have that problem. We then link the computer to the TV and watch it on a big screen.

Post by: stoop on February 13, 2012, 11:25:24 AM: I just took an Apple TV box to my son in Thailand and he then 'jailbroke' it via the internet (no cost). He can now watch BBC iplayer, ITV player, 4OD and Five OD as well as pay on demand for Sky Sports 1,2,3,4 and Sky movies. Cost is about £2.99 per day I think 0r £5.99 per month - or £14.99 for 3 months - or £39.99 per year.

I'm going to try the same thing myself this next week. If I can get Sky for £3.95 per month then I will be more then happy to shell out £90 for the box - especially as it fits in so well with my iphone and the wife's ipad. I also understand that anything you have on your iphone/pad or pc can be played instantly through your tv. Wifi is required of course.

He's put the price up since I bought mine but he took an offer of £115 - which is about £15 more than Apple charge for the unit alone. My son reckoned £15 was a good price to pay for all the goodies he installs as he said it would take me the best part of a day to do it myself.

Post by: stoop on March 02, 2012, 10:45:04 AM: Rimms - if you jailbreak it then you can add lots of other things to the box. Flashsports for example is one that you can only watch on a jail-broken box. This then lets you have lots of the main Sky sports channels as well as some others such as Fox sports and Sky Movies 1 & 2.

It does work and the streams are very good. There is no waiting for them to appear - you are just straight onto the channel you choose.

I am going to have to buy a tele once i'm there to go with as the monitor is was thinking about using hasn't got an hmdi socket still never mind,as long as her in doors can see her soaps lol

Managed to get Flashsports working after a plug-in went 'missing' on the system (not just mine but world-wide). Picture quality on my HD TV is pretty good but not high quality. No freezing or lagging though as these are paid for streams and are less likely to get over run with users.

If you don't want to jailbreak then using Catch Up TV on your ipad or iphone will do - all you need to then do is watch it on your tv via 'airplay'. Works fine in the UK but you might need a VPN in Turkey.

Post by: stoop on April 15, 2012, 09:59:52 AM: Just watched the GP on my apple tv via Flash Sports streams. Awesome picture and without doubt the best £115 I've spent in ages.

I also found another portal last week called Navi-X which is part of the jailbreak package and, put simply - it has just about every film/tv program you could ever want to watch and it's free. I found the full series of Happy Days and we watched the very first episode (which wasn't that funny actually as the Fonz was not in it that much and the credits had him on the last page).

We also watched The Iron Lady last night as we missed it at the flicks. Again and awesome feed and not one hiccup in 1.5 hours.

I even managed to watch the semi final at work yesterday lunch as it's also available on the computer. Although I do find the Apple TV/Ipad option is much smoother but that's probably my processor.

Post by: happy_flyer on April 26, 2012, 20:35:05 PM: As we came to expect the tele in the hotel was from the ark, huge great box thing, lol so tried it in a friends tele which did have HDMI socket and WOW, Brilliant as you said best buy i've had in a long time.

Back at the hotel i invested in Expat . net to fooled the laptop it was in UK so could watch all the uk stuff she wanted to see. Soaps mostly but i did get to watch the Grand prix so not all bad.

Expat is only £5 a month so well worth it until we get over there and buy a new Tele to watch the Apple Tv on.

not easily got in Turkey.

Enjoy! Lots to choose. I'd say about 75-89% work fine and some of the movie feeds are spot on!

Post by: stoop on April 27, 2012, 11:31:06 AM: It's worth remembering if you have an 'enhanced' Apple TV then under no circumstances should you update the software! This will probably get rid of the files you need to access the extra channels.

Also be very careful if you connect it to your itunes account as this might ask you to update the itunes software whilst the apple tv is connected. This might have the same effect so be very careful.

Of course if the worst happens you can usually jailbreak it again but I think you will either need help from someone who knows how to do it or a connection for your PC so that you can download the files and do it yourself.

No way should anyone pay £180+. Just buy one from Apple for £99 and jailbreak it yourself. A couple of quid for a connection I think and it's not too difficult to do if you know what you are doing.

Post by: stoop on May 03, 2012, 09:12:12 AM: I agree with Barry - try your best to get untethered as they are much easier to use. Basically you need a box that does NOT have the latest software on it - 5.01 - otherwise it cannot be jailbroken untethered. Basically it means when you switch the apple tv off (remove the power cord or switch off at the socket)you will have to connect to a laptop or pc to boot it up again. An untethered one does not have this problem.

I expect a 'crack' for 5.01 will be available soon which means anyone with a tethered box should be able to re-jailbreak as soon as it's ready.
