My mate has given me a very nice Samsung phone(her old contract one), can I get it unlocked and registered here.

You should be able to get it unlocked and then put any sim card in no need to register it

If you are using it in Turkey you will need to have it unlocked and registered to whatever provider you are using, it should then work fine.

Thanks everyone for your help. Where do I take it to get it unlocked? any phone shop? I presume once the new phone is unlocked and registered I can put my sim card in?

you can get it registered in the turkcell shop near hsbc bank in fethiye you will have to buy a new chip off them. all costs 25ytl i had it done last week with a samsung but mine was already unlocked.
