I have been given a sterling cheque drawn on a bank account in England. Can I simply deposit it in my Turkish Sterling account or lodge it in my Lira account? Is there a charge for this in either the Turkish bank or the UK bank it is drawn on? Would I be better just waiting till I went to England and put it in my bank?

If you can afford to wait, it's better to bank it in the UK.

I have paid an English cheque into a turkish account once. Think it took 3 weeks to clear and was charged £30 for cashing it.

Pay it into your UK account. We paid a bankers draft cheque in to our bank here and it took over 4 weeks to clear and we were charged over £40.

Does a cheque not have a certain length of time from date on it that it is valid to be paid into a bank?

Kev, I think, it's valid for 6 months.
