Hi everyone, the Calis Carnival Committee are very pleased to announce that the total amount raised for the disadvantaged kids in the Calis/Fethiye area from 2009 fundraising has netted just over 23,000 TL. All of the Carnival expenses are now met but as there is still a litle more money to come in from promised sponsorship and hat sales, this total could increase slightly and we expect the final total to be similar to that raised in 2008
The final figure to the last kurus will be announced in the next couple of weeks when our treasurer has verified the figures on his return from UK. In a time of credit crunch we are really pleased with this total and would like to say a big, big thank you to everyone for your generosity and support.
Some of the money has already gone to good use as earlier this year the Committee purchased most of the nursery furniture and equipment from Elaine and John Fordrey (Magic Garden Nursery) when they were selling up. A lot of this equipment has now been donated to Catalarik School, a very poor school at at the back of Gunlukbasi on the Uzumlu road. The headmaster and teachers collected the equipment from our store last week and are over the moon with the furniture, books, playground slide etc. We have also purchased paint for the classroom and the teachers and parents will decorate the nursery room over the school holidays so that it is like a new nursery when the kids start back in September.
We have received several applications for assistance and these will be discussed at our next committee meeting.
