Friends of mine have visited someone in Faralya and they say there is a tree growing there that has leaves that smell of chocolate.

It's almost certainly a carob tree. They're not uncommon and you'll find hundreds of them in the area.

The beans are often used as a substitute for chocolate in cooking and can be given as treats to dogs because they aren't poisonous to them like chocolate is.

You can find the dark brown curly pods at the market later in the year wash and chew. Quite sweet but not very chocolaty. Energy booster and aphrodisiac so we are told. Don't all rush to Faralya!

Yes, there are a couple of trees along the route and several down near the monastery.

As a matter of interest, gems and precious metals used to be weighed against carob beans and that's where the modern carat weight originates from.
