My apologies, I have confused the specific requirement that I have, ie for a PAYG Turkish dongle, with the more general topic of tis particular Thread, which is 'Mobile Broadband'. I did this because I followed a link (posted by Stoop) to this particluar thread from one called Dongle (or similar).

Still no word on a PAYG dongle though.......

Is there any way of checking how much of the 4gb you have left at any time?   Or do you just have to wait until it doesn't work any more.

Sorry if I've posted this on the wrong thread - I was getting confused!

Hi Ive a turkcell Vinn Dongle and pay 29tl for 4gb
To find out how many i have left i just text Kalan mb to 2260 on the text bit on the Vinn screen and get a reply nearly straight away, it also tells you when the month is up

Just one more question  -

What do I need to take to the shop to renew for a further month?

The 10 digit number on the card you get with the sim and has your  pin on it,
mines 530 --- -- --
you can renew only at Turkcell shops with a TIM sign outside it
and remember you lose your gbs after a month so have to renew
but you can renew anytime if you run out during the month Then you have another month to use up

Regarding the downloading of programmes from BBC iplayer, I had the problem of not being able to when I was working in Istanbul.  The site detects that the IP address of the connection is not from the UK and then blocks the download.

Killjoys!
