You can probably buy brand new cheaper unless you have something very special.  If you want to go down that road look at www.sumerman.com here in Turkey. :)

Why on earth are people saying don't do it?  We did and are glad we did.  We loved some of our furniture, books, sound systems etc, shipped them over and to this day we have not seen anything in the shops that equals them.  Just our opinion of course. :)
We did a search on the internet for local shipping companies, used Atlantic something or other...it was a long time ago, cannot recall the full name. ;) Some friends used Pickfords and had no problems.

We shipped ours over for exactly the same reasons we could not find the eqivalent quality in the area. When we priced it up it was a cheaper option to ship it over than to travel to Izmir/Antalya or Istanbul to try and find what we wanted.
I guess it all depends on what you as an individual is used to in quality and the value, to replace your furniture at home, if not shipped.
We are so glad we bought ours over as it made our villa feel like home immeadiately and we found it easier to settle.
We did it including taxes and backhanders for about £5500.
Look in your local directory and get lots of quotes and haggle down the insurance costs. We got ours from 3.5% to 1% for full cover.
Best of luck
Fi

Initially I thought that we had found a bargain with DHL, I boxed up 10 boxes which was the contents of my home in the UK, we were quoted £800 which i didnt think was bad, that was until out stuff got stuck in customs in Istanbul, we then received a phonecall to say that if we didnt get out to Istanbul the following day they were going to sell our stuff as there was a problem that we hadnt even been informed of, my husband had to fly out to Istanbul (he is Turkish so knew the system) he was escorted to a cash point by a couple of burly blokes that had nothing to do with customs where he had to hand of £1,000 and then on top of that was another additional £1,500 for storage and various backhanders, my husband, who is no shrinking violet was really shaken up by the whole thing, he was requested to turn up the following day, he took his cousin who just happens to be in the police and was pleased that he did as they denied ever receiving the money that he had paid the previous day, when our goods were finally delivered there was stuff missing and a lot of stuff had been broken, if i had my time again i wouldnt have gone down this route.

I shared a container with some friends. When it eventually arrived in Fethiye the container had been opened, all of the boxes had been rumaged and a lot of the stuff, mostly electrical, cameras cd's etc, were missing and things damaged . Whoever had opened the container had done so without the agent being there which is a no-no.
From personal experience not a route I would go down again.:-\

I'm pretty certain Pickfords would be able to do it and off the top of my head I think you can arrange a quotation on line. They will then send out a surveyor to go through everything and give you a full breakdown of shipping costs and all related charges/taxes etc. From personal experience (I work for them) it is not cheap but they are excellent on international moves. The survey is free and without obligation so it's worth a call.
