Nationwide Cash Card - Unwelcome rule changes.
« on: March 16, 2010, 07:04:30 AM »
Bad news for Nationwide Cash Card ( formerly Flexaccount ) holders living in Turkey.
I have just received a letter from Nationwide re changes to their Cash Card rules.
All current cards will be replaced by new Cards between June and September 2010.
YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE THE NEW CARDS TO WITHDRAW CASH
FROM CASH MACHINES EXCEPT WITHIN THE UK.

So for me it will be opening a Turkish Bank account with a cashcard facility and then having my pensions paid direct from the UK  into this account.

Any suggestions regarding reliable friendly Turkish Banks will be welcome!

Regards,
Farmer.

We have had the same letter for our daughter in the UK and our understanding is it only affects the cash card plus - and to my knowledge you could never use that abroad to withdraw cash????

The Nationwide Flex Account Visa remains unaltered (you can still use it for free in Turkey)

Santander advertise that they do not charge for using accounts abroad -zero current account, I think - I don't use them but I saw an advert for it the other day.

Looking at the website - it will depend on what card you have as to what the change will be

There seems to be a scare about the Nationwide card every year on CBF.
I have checked and as far as I can see we will still be able to use
our card without charges when we are in Turkey.
Reference the Santander card, we have one of those too.
The card can be used to buy abroad with no penalties, it's the
same as buying in the U.K. So if you pay the card in full at the end of
the month you incur no extra charges.
We got one to use in the States last year, it was great, no problems.
Also in the States they don't ask for your pin number, you just
sign an electronic keypad.

Nationwide is not withdrawing its VISA debit card and your current card will be valid until expiry. All financial institutions in the UK are withdrawing the cheque guarantee card. The only difference will be that your existing visa debit card will no longer have the cheque guarantee.

You can apply for an upgrade from a cashcard account to a VISA Debit card account. This account is not affected by the changes.

This is totally opposite info to that posted on their website as per the link on gorgeous birds post above. It clearly staes the new Visa Debit Card for Flexaccount CAN be used abroad
